Default Stock diameter vs. a taller tire.

I'm starting to look at new tires for the spring. I currently have 275/30/19s on my 19x9.5" Ruff 278s, but the tires look to be just a little bit narrow, and the sidewall is almost non existant. I'm considering getting a set of Nitto INVO's but going with a wider width of 285, and a taller sidewall of 35 vs 30.

According to Nitto's site, a 275/30/19 is 25.59" tall, and a 285/35/19 is 26.73" tall, so it's going to be ~1.1" taller, but that translates to only ~0.6" taller in the wheel well.

I know I'm definitely going with a 285 width, I'm just not 100% on the aspect ratio yet. I'm not worried about the speedo as I can adjust it with HPtuners.

Any suggestions or opinions?

If you know a brand/model that runs narrow, then get a set of 295/30/19s (25.97").
Another option is to run a 285/30/19s (25.73") up front and 285/35/19s (26.85") in the rear. If you drive you car hard in the corners you will have some rubbing up front (full lock also) with a 285/35/19, how much depends on you wheel offset.

One thing that I can definitely tell you about it to be careful. Be sure to look at what the overall diameter is of the front wheel, and keep that in mind when you get your new rear tires. If there is too much of discrepancy between the two it will set off your ABS sensors. I am not sure what the threshold is, but I do know that my Mickey Thompson 26X11.50x17 set them off with the stock 245/50/16.

I didn't even think about the front tire when turned. As it is now, I get a slight amount of rub when at full lock, but it's only on the black plastic wheel liner.

Most likely I'll end up with the 285/30/19s. It's a shame because the 285/35/19 is a common tire size, so they are typically $25-$40 cheaper a tire.

They're the same price at DTD.

Could you post some pictures of the sidewall height currently? I am thinking of doing the same thing but on 18" rims instead. The correct size for a 18x9.5" rim is 275/35R18 but after looking at some pictures, the tire looks so small and I don't like the gap in the wheel well. I was thinking of going with a 275/40R18 for the front and a 305/40R18 for the rear to fill up the space. I would go for the 35 in your case.

If you worried about the sidewall height I'd run a 285/35/18(25.85") on the 18 x 9.5 wheels. You could try running a 265/40/18 (MAX HEIGHT at 26.35") which should have less issues with rubbing then a 275/40/18 (To TALL at 26.66").

I run a 275/35/18 front, and a 275/40/18 rear, all on 18 x 9s.

See, your front tires look too thin for that wheel in that wheel well. Would a 275/40R18 not fit at all?

BTW,my front ride height is lower now and my rear ride height is easily adjustable.
Yes a 275/40/18 will fit fine as long as you don't drive it hard in the curves/corners but you will still have some rubbing with that tire size regardless of how you drive(tight corners/U-turns). I drive my car hard so to me that's unacceptable to have any tire rubbing when I'm just cruising along.

I would suggest that if a 275/35/18 tire sidewall looks to short to you, then maybe you should just stick with 17" wheels and tires.

What about at stock ride height? Would the 275/40-18 rub then?

I think you'll be okay at stock ride height, maybe some slight rubbing at full lock.
