Default Trickflow 215 heads and 231/237 cam

I just purchased a set of trick flow cnc'd 215 heads. Some people locally have suggested that i keep my current 231/237 camshaft while others suggest i go with something different. Is there anyone currently running this setup? Any recommendations and opinions are welcome. Also, these heads are machined to 58cc so i would assume no matter what route i take i will have to fly cut (?)

if you add the full specs of your cam it will be easier to gauge the PTV clearence. However I would assume you will even with that cam. I will say this about the TFS heads, I have seen lots of combos with thoose heads and no matter what cam is used its always a stout combo. Thoose heads are very forgiving with cam selection. What is your goal with your car?

cam is as follows

Thunder Racing 231/237 112(i believe its a +2) .595/.605

as far as goals are concerned, i want to get more time at the track with this car. I am already in the process of removing a ton of weight from the car. I want it to perform well at the track and be a roll monster. As far as a HP number or ET is concerned, i really have no clue what the car will do as of yet. Old numbers were 393 wheel on a mustang dyno and 12.0's @ 119- 120 mph on bogging 1.9 60 fts.

I think 450 on that mustang dyno you dynoed at the first time is possible if all the details aren't overlooked.

The valve angle on those heads will let you run more overlap than stock castings but you should still clay them to make sure.

FWIW: In my 346 I ran a set of well CNC'd 243 castings at 62cc's, a 230-236 112 +2 XE-R lobe cam and a ported 90/90 setup. This was in my C5. It made 460 on a DJ. I sold that setup and the new owner made 443 on a Mustang.

BTW: I really like that size cam. Much better average power than some of the donkey dick stuff people are claiming "drives like stock".

Did you have to flycut with that setup?

I probably should have. It was close and when I pulled the heads you could see where they had just barely touched the piston. Didn't do any damage. Another .010 head gasket and they wouldn't have touched. I ran Cometics .040's.

Good to know. I should be golden then with my AFR 205's milled down to 62cc and a 230/234 110 lsa cam. I won't be running cosmetics, so I should have plenty of room.

Rather than hoping for the best .... you should check for proper piston to valve clearence...... no two motors are identical.

Hope this helps I am running a TSP TV2 its 232/234 and both intake and exhaust are just shy of .600. My TFS are shaved alittle less than 61cc. I am also running MLS gaskets When I measured with clay my PTV was right where I wanted it. No matter what anyone tells you it takes about 30 minutes to measure with clay and it will save you a ton of headache in the future. If you put everything together and then a valve kisses a piston you will be regretting not checking. After a valve nicks a piston you are on borrowed time sometimes it causes detonation and others run crappy for a while then detonate.
