Default ARP Crank Bolt?

I'm about ready to install my ARP crank bolt, and luckily a saw a few posts with people breaking them or having issues.

I put the pully on, with the stock bolt and my impact cranked up.

So,
1) Using the stock bolt, torque to 235ft/lbs and remove stock bolt
2) Tighten ARP bolt to ????ft/lbs
3) ?

Could someone answer this, who has used ARP. Sounds like people tried to torque the ARP to the OEM torque spec and ran into trouble.

Good little dab of loctite on the end of the threads and hammer it on in with the impact. Never had any problems either. I dont really get crazy with it, just once it seats, let it hammer a couple times and go on. I do the same with the stock bolts too without a problem. I used the stock bolt with this method 6 or 7 times before I replaced it just because I had another one laying around and didnt want to push my luck.

I have some of the blue loctite...I think I ran out of red. 242 or something like that? Or should I run buy more red?

Thanks for the help, my engineering side makes me paranoid sometimes.

I know the feeling!

Just checking since this is mainly a drag motor, and will probably spin pretty high.

I just used my largest torque wrench and torqued it down to 240 lb.ft. w/o loctite, I never had any problems with it coming loose doing it this way.

ARP's suggestions:

Loctite for a lubricant
235 ft/lbs

Mine came with a big washer - use that also?

Yes, use the washer, pay attention to it, the curved side goes toward the bolt head.

The washer prevents contact/damage to the surface immediately under the bolt head (where the bolt's cross-section changes)... any damage/scratches in this area of the bolt may lead to a failed bolt.

I'll prolly need this thread in a couple months and won't be able to find it.. Also prolly taking up a lot of space with all my bookmarked threads.

But I usually just use a 1/2" breaker bar and a cheater bar and just sock it down till I feel I'm gonna break the 1/2" drive snub. Did that a bunch of times already (using the big bar) and it hasn't failed yet. But I've ALSO got a BMFTW and I think I'll try using it this time.
