Default Anyone have a problem putting ls6 intake on a LQ4

I am doing a LQ4 swap in a 1980 Trans am and I am picking up parts for it and I was told that the fuel line on a ls6 intake will hit the truck coils. Can anyone who has done this swap verify this is true or not? thanx

It's true but there are several options... Move the coils, use an aftermarket fuel rail, tweak the factory fuel rail, etc. You're doing a custom install so you will have to get creative in areas.

I've put LS1 intakes on LQ engines. You'll need to bend the fuel line about 1/4". The steam vent tube will need to be bent too. The water pump outlet will also hit the TB.

I've successfuly tweaked the LS1 fuel rails to clear the truck coils. It's not a big deal.

If you are using a returnless rail setup the truck coils won't clear, the LS1 coils do though.

Ok.....I just did this an hour ago.....truck coils fit fine.....just take a box wrench and bend the fuel line inlet toward the rear of the motor until you have clearance.....Took me 30 seconds to do....

bend slowly and gently and it will be fine.

I'm sure I can get you a pic tomorrow. I don't recall what year my rails are from, but they are from an F-car. I think I have both styles of truck coils. If so, I can do a pic of each.

These first 4 pics are the triangle coils I had when I did the bending.

Since it can point to either side, I flipped it around, and found it makes no difference. Neither did swapping coil packs from side to side. To me, a pack is 4 coils plus the bracket. I tried to be thorough for ya:

With the block sitting where it is, this side made it easier for me to get a closer pic:

Note the 3 tiny kinks, from using the 13 mm box-end wrench in 3 places. This is better than just 2 sharper kinks.

Now switching from triangle coils to round coils, the bending would need to be slightly upward, or else modify the bracket. The difference is less the coils themselves, more the different brackets. These brackets seem to move the coils upward and inward.

Note that I got my coils and brackets as assemblies, as GM put them together. I never removed any coil from any bracket, of what's shown above. My triangle coils came with my '01 LM7, no idea whether pickup or Suburban or what, 2wd or 4wd, et cetera.
My round coils came with my '01 LQ4, again, no idea what it was installed in.
