San Antonio Peeps. Restaurant Recommendations
Looking to take the Girlfriend out for her birthday dinner around Christmas.
Looking for upper scale restaurants or even hole in the wall places for lunch too. I enjoy variety. No Chili's or Applebees, catch my drift. It can range from any type of food. and price isn't an option.
Name some places and why you recommend it. Thx guys.

SA restaurants are not good, in comparison to Houston, Dallas. You can go to Fogo de Chao, or other chain restaurants if you like that stuff. Ruth Chris actually has a better main dining area than the one in Houston, with an upstairs jaz bar on weekends. The food at the location in Houston is always much better, but the atmosphere in SA is better since you can hear the lounge from the downstairs dining area, and you are right next to the historic train and tracks.
I have found some decent gastro pubs on different parts of town, if you are in to that type of stuff. Lots of flavor, and not really your ordinary mom and pop type of places. Not normal to SA, but more of a Chicago, New York flair mixing lots of different food groups in to one single dish. PM if you want a few ideas if you like bold, real food that is different.

Thx guys for the suggestions.
Unfortunately she doesn't eat meat or sushi.
We'll probably eat beside the river walk. Since I don't know my way around the area.

It's a chain, but Cheesecake Factory is good. Huge variety and it taste good.
There really isn't much to say for the "eateries" here.
There are plenty of unique places, but the food isn't all that much to rave about.

Try Clear Springs on 1604 and SOPW on the northside!

They have a ton of variety and the prices are awesome, with a great theme as well.

Your benihana is one of a few in the world that is franchised. It sucks. I've been there about 10 times of of I-10 since my family lives close to Boerne now. Your Salt Grass steak houses do not have the same dressings, and certain recipes in some of their meals. We have been extremely dissapointed in them.
My fiancee is a writer, and a food blogger on the side. So we eat for free at a lot of places. SA is one of our least favorite towns for food. Chicago is by far, the best, with Vegas not far behind. Have yet to get deep in to New York.

I guess everybody has different tastes i guess. I have always had a good experience at Benihana. I only ate at Salt Grass twice i think, and both with positive experiences. But where else is a good place to eat in SA that isnt a chain or good food?
