what kind of car are you getting? please tell me not an ls1...i steer clear of 16 year olds with 4 cylinder trucks. i may have to stop driving if 16 year olds start driving ls1's.

seriously though, not to knock on you, but 16 year olds behind ANY wheel is more dangerous than a half blind 50 year old behind a semi. when i think about how bad of a driver i was when i was 16, i wonder how i'm still alive. and i drove a 1989 astrovan!!

get something less powerful first

I'm 17 and I pay around $4000 . It sucks but I love this car.

If you are getting an LS1...DON'T BE AN IDIOT. Most drive like complete ******** but I know how dangerous my car can be and I am ALOT more careful than they are. I had my car for about a year without any accident or tickets so far . Be careful.

when i bought my first ls1 3 yrs ago i was 17, just out of highschool. i had to write it up as a secondary vehicle just to afford to keep it. and you know i had to mod it some. now im on my 3rd one. never had any accidents or tickets but came close on both with my first one. now i pay $36 bucks a month as a secondary vehicle

Well, my truck is by no means fast, but I guess it's probably more of a danger to ya'll Insurance I can't say, we do the family thing and it's a secondary vehicle.

If you're just getting your license you need to remember a few things. First is the cost of the car. While this is a one-time expense, you can make a better decision than a F-Body or Mustang. Even V-6's are expensive to insure. As much as it may be to digest, the smart move would be a base Neon, Escort, Cavalier, etc. They may not have a lot of flash, but you can pick up dependable, low mileage examples of these cars for less than $3000.

Second, the worst thing your agent (or his underwriter) can see when you apply for insurance, are these words or abreviations; V-8, turbo, supercharged, Camaro, Mustang, Corvette, Firebird, Porsche (even old 924 and 944 models), GT, Z-28, Z-24, etc. The cost to insure one of the models above would be about 25% or 35% of the cost of a Camaro Z-28. It's a lot harder to get into trouble with a 100 HP car vs. a 300 HP car.

The question you have to ask yourself is do you want to have money to spend on dates, movies, etc., or do you want to spend all your money on your car? If going to college, many schools won't let you keep a car on campus (bicycles only). Plus the cost of pizzas in the dorm. Buy something nice after college graduation.

i imagine if you are 16 and are driving an ls1, your parents can probably afford the insurance if you did a poll, i doubt you'd find too many 16 year old ls1 drivers paying for their car and insurance...

Buy something nice after college graduation.
and if you are paying for your own car and insurance, you'll probably also be paying for your college. so when you get out, you can buy something nice like your financial freedom after you pay off your thousands in school loans!

I'm 16 and own a mid 12 second Z28. The only ticket I have ever had was a ticket for no front license plate that later just got dismissed. No accidents yet, just a key mark. The insurance is payed under my dads name who is 52 years old. If you really love your car, you wont beat the hell out of it and drive crazy. peace.

I am 17 right now. I pay $1100 a year because I am on our old 83 pick-up and I think my mom is on my car. I also got the good student discount. I have a 4.2 GPA and have never been pulled-over for anything. I am also VERY nice to my car, which is probably why

Wow, all you 16 and 17 year olds need to thank your parents for paying for your car and insurance.. I cant believe how young you guys are with such modded cars. Geez, I cant wait till my hard slaving work pays off and i can afford an ls1.

Very true. I thank both my mom and dad almost every single day and let them know how happy and grateful I am to own my car.
