Insurance for my car when I was sixteen was $3000 for 6 months. Then we change insurance carriers and put myself on a old broken down piece of junk I found on the side of the road for 100 dollars. Stuffed it in my barn and called it a day. My mom is on the T/A now and me on the POS. Saved a lot of money. It is now about $1000 for 6 months use.

You should by a Corvette C5 they are cheaper..... I just turned 22 and it is $55 a month for full coverage... I have 14 points on my record. I am the only one insured under it also!! I do get the good student discount, multi-car policy, renter's insurance, etc..... on it though.. When I was 16, and again..... by myself on the policy, I was paying $225 a month for full coverage on an LT1 car.

Just Beware! All of you on your parents policy, just remember what could happen. No one expects to get in an accident. But they do happen. Many insurance companies will request a copy of the police report showing who was driving.
In a tort state, like New York, Illinios, or Missouri, this may be a minor issue if you are not at fault. Usually the third party carrier (insurance company) will pay for the repairs without worrying who was driving. But if you are at fault in the accident, this will open up different problems. The insurance is based on your parents driving this car, not you. In an accident, your parents insurance on that vehicle will skyrocket just as if the policy were yours. To bring down the insurance, the insurance company may insist that you be an excluded driver for that car (how much would that suck if the money to buy the car was yours?) which would mean that if you were the driver in another accident, your fault or not, your insurance carrier would deny the claim.
In a no-fault state like Michigan or New Jersey, this can be even worse. Even in an accident your not at fault in, you have to go back to your company. Many will require a police report to verify the cause of the accident. Again, seeing you driving this car, even if the accident wasn't your fault, may change how that company looks at a primary driver for a certain vehicle.

there sure are a lot of spoiled kids out there. i had a 89 p.o.s. escort for my first car and i still had to pay for that. my parents said it would "build character". i pay 100 a month for insurance. have no tickets over 10 and 1 wreck

Im eighteen with no points and a semi-clean driving record. I pay 214 a month and im the only one on the policy and that is with the camaro and my nissan.

get a truck...when i was 16 my dad sold me one of his old company trucks an 87 K-30 Chevy 4x4 with a plow....had a 4 bolt 350,TH400 wasn't fast but had alot of good times in that thing..payed 900 for full coverage for 12 months...now 4 tickets and 3 years later i'm paying 3,000 for 6 months on the camaro..850 on the chevelle and 0 on the truck because its stittin in the garage after some bitch in a mini-van t boned it 2 summers ago

When I was 16, it was $3200 a year.
I turned 17 this past december, and now it is $2800.
All I can say to those of you who have LS1s at 16 is don't be stupid. I am 17 now, and got my SS when I was 16. I had to do some stupid crap to make me relize I am not invincible, and that this car could go at any time. I paid the Down payment for the car, and pay full insurence. I am always broke, suck up $20-$40 a week on gas, and half my check goes to insurence. I can't do anything, then I have to save for oil, tires, repairs, mods, and blah, blah, blah ,blah, you get the picture. The car constantly needs money flow. Not a car for a 16 year old for 2 major reasons. Money, and power. Quite simply this car can kill you thanks to your right foot. They make so much power that driving like a ricer puts yourself in great danger as well as those around you. Hopefully you wont have to see what I mean.
If you get an LS1 look for something that is the right everything, they are out there now, WS6s, SSs, Z28s, Formulas, TAs, and even vettes. I could get a Vette for the amount of money me and my parents pay for the car, I pay some of the payments, but not much seeing as this was a early Christmas gift, and I sat and watched my brother open stuff while I had keys in my hand.
Just think man, I was there 6 months ago, it was fun and sucked at the same time when reality hit and I was broke.
I turned 17 this past december, and now it is $2800.

I would take all the comments made by teenage LS1 drivers with a grain of salt. After a few conversations with them here and there I learned a few things.
1). They all paid for the car themselves and have worked 40 hours a week since they were 12.
2). They all are very responsible.
3). They all drive very safely and never race on the street or highways.
4). They just wanted the car for the looks and never abuse the power it has.
Oh and I forgot the last one. Most of them are lying through thier teeth. 16 + LS1 = Nieve parents. You can claim all the I'm a great driver and a+ student all you want but it's like your parents giving you a loaded gun and saying "go play". Yes you can do something stupid in a 100 HP Cavalier but you are far more likely to do it in a car that goes 0-100 in 13 seconds as opposed to a car that might top out at 100.
Bottom line is they want the power because they plan to use it. If they didn't they would be content with a 200 HP V6 camaro/firebird. Odds are you won't get in a wreck/killed but you are definately in a higher percentage for risk then another 16 year old driving a minivan or non-modded 4 cyl car. As a parent myself I would never give my child who has so little driving experience, life experience and access to the movie the fast and the furios a car with 300 rwhp and a top speed of 163.
Common sense won't let me do it. I agree with the guys here that say you should get a lesser car for now (maybe a V6 f-body) and then in a few years when your in college or right out of college look for a LS1 or whatever your into at that time.

I'll be the first to admit, everybody should lose control of a f-car in a controlled situation, to learn its limits, and to scare the crap out of you.
I spun around a Z28 on a test drive, and ever since then, i respect the power of the car, and DO NOT abuse it.
Granted im not 16, no way i could afford the car when i was 16, (and i worked a job making $13 an hour too) But then again a 98 Ws6 was 32,000 when i was 16, and 17,900 when i was 21.
I bought my Ws6 for the looks, as you tell me they look as agressive as the V6 firebird.... LOFL, these cars are not good enough to buy a V6, imho. Too many bad things about them, to not make up for it with a 300+ hp motor. (that is the bottom line, of why they died)
Granted the LS1 helped the sales later on, but the platform was on its way out already.
