Default Anyone here live in League City/Dickinson off of 646?

Well my Grandpa just had a house built at the beginning of '10 off of 646 sort of near the HEB in a new neighborhood. I'm really sad to say this, but he's not doing so well, and the hospice has stepped in. He wants to give me his house when he passes, which I will accept, but I had a question.

The house is right around $200k, and I was wondering about how much property taxes will be over there. My parents live in League City off of 518, and they only pay about $5000/yr. but they don't pay MUD taxes, which HE does.
Anyone live around there that can let me know about how much it will be? I want the house, but I don't want to get into something I can't afford.

Oh, and he bought the house straight out in cash, so there will be no mortgage.

Sorry about your grandpa. However,

If the house is free, how could you not afford it?

Actually, this is the best idea. Rent it out. You'll be making money every month on the house.

If property taxes and insurance are ridiculous, I might not. I'm only 21, so I'm not banking just yet.

You can still keep the house and rent it out.

Or, you could live in the house and have a few roommates.

I have to give you **** on this one, Is it a Hemi or a 440? But it can't be both

Back to the question, if it is tax valued at 200K and has a home stead exemption, you are looking at around $6500 for taxes.

Sorry, fixed it. I WISH it was a hemi Cuda.

$6500? That's not too bad. I'm paying about $11,000/yr right now in rent alone. Someone told me over there it was around $9000/yr. I was wondering about that because those are Pearland prices...

you can go on www.har.com and look for other houses for sale in that area, it has the tax info on the right side, or even search for the address or name on galveston county appraisal district's website.

Go to www.har.com and check out some of the houses for sale in the area. There is a tax info window on the right side of any house on there that you can get a good estimate on.

Oh dang, 14 secv-6 beat me to it.

You know where I'm at, also League City. We pay about $8000 a year in taxes with homestead exemption. You can afford it, it will be way less than rent and your utility bills will be about the same since the house was built with new standards. My electric bill in 2600 sq ft is normally around $125-$150, barely over $200 in hot summer with my wife and kids home.

Sorry to hear about your Grandfather too.

dude Im 21 , and I know damn well I can come up with 8k in a yr , thats not a lot of cash , plus u always have income tax money that can go to it. Just save up what ever ur paying for rent , I know rent in friendswood can be some cash. like atleast 500 bucks a month. Now u can save up 500 a month wich will only give u 6k. but im sure u can manage.

Not unless u want to do it like most in alvin , buy a couple of goats and sheeps and u will have basicatly no taxes lol.

I agree with this 100%. Not to be rude, but how can you not come up with 8-9k in a year? Thats a nice subdivision, and sounds like a nice house.

Well I'm taking into consideration property taxes, insurance, maintenance, bills, ect.
