only thing i think it could be is the oil pressure sensor or the oil pump it self went out.
what ever it is it should be covered under warranty as long as the car is not modded to much if it is start puting it back to stock.

Unless you can verify it has oil pressure, park it, tow it to the dealer and let them deal with it. Must be nice to be able to do that...

Who knows if it hasnt done damage already! I would drive it and drive it hard to see if the engine has a problem....if it doesnt then its prob a sensor. my reasoning in this is, lets say its an oil pump and it has done damage already. They may not catch that in the shop, until your next trip saying "hey guys, I know you did my oil pump last week but I need a new motor now. Its going squeeky squeeky!" lol. I would at least drive it to them and not tow it

when you say "took a crap" I'm taking that it stalled out or the gauge dropped to 0 all of a sudden?

If the motor took a crap with it full of oil the oil pump is shot.

Brand new cars take ***** with less than 100 miles on them every day somewhere, all makes and models, especially American made junk.

But who cares........its under warranty.

Its either just fine and the oil pressure sending unit or the oil pump quit......or it ran too long without oil pressure and its completely fucked.

Either way...its covered....luckily.......

Even if its lightly modded they should still cover your warranty. They should even tow it from wherever it is. If not go to another dealer. Trust me, GM cares way too much about customer service nowadays to reject a warranty claim like that simply because the car has a few bolt ons. The dealer I work we put a brand new 6 speed in an 08 Vette that came in with Kooks long tubes, ORX, SLP catback, MT drag radials, and rear fenderwells FULL of rubber......

Its nice to know dealerships like this exist but they sure as hell arent around here. I took my G8 to the dealer where I bought it for a lifter failure and all they could say was "you have aftermarket parts your warranty is void". They didnt even try and figure out what the problem was. I havent been back since. I do all my own work and stay away from the stealership at all costs.

I have some mods on my G8 and my dealer never denied me warranty coverage. As long as the aftermarket parts don't cause any warrantied parts to fail they have to cover the repair.

That sucks man..... Especially for a lifter failure, you'd have to be running some serious power for a lifter to fail (well, assuming the mods are the cause of the failure of course, which 99% of the time its not).

According to the GM service manual it doesn't, just for the conditions listed below.

The engine control module (ECM) cuts OFF the motor when the following conditions are met in order to protect the powertrain from damage and improve driveability:
• The ignition is OFF. This prevents engine run-on.
• The ignition is ON, but there is no ignition reference signal. This prevents flooding or backfiring.
• The engine speed is too high, above the red line.
• The vehicle speed is too high, above rated tire speed.
• During an extended, high speed, closed throttle coast down, this reduces emissions and increases engine braking.
• During extended deceleration, in order to prevent damage to the catalytic converters.
• The torque management enabled--Transmission shifts or abusive maneuvers.
• The traction control enabled--In conjunction with the front brakes applying

There is a little metal filter right before the oil pressure sensor, it probably got clogged, causing the problem, it's actually fairly common. If this is the problem, the engine would operate normally, and the PCM won't shut the engine off.

The pcm wont disable the engine for a no oil pressure concern. It'll just sit there and ding at you and depending on the vehicle will display "NO OIL PRESSURE, TURN ENGINE OFF" in the DIC. Common problems on the 07 and newer V8's for low or no oil pressure: failed oil pressure sensor, plugged filter below oil pressure sensor (highly doubtful with only 3k miles, typically see this on higher mileage engines where they dont change their oil), or oil pump relief valve stuck wide open. I've seen all of these several times within the past couple years.

That could be a bad idea. Could you imagine the carnage that would ensue if, say a '10 SS was racing, suddenly lost pressure, and the PCM turned the car off? With a sudden loss of power steering and braking that could cause quite a wreck...
