Default What is the difference between A4 and M6?

I'm a newb on the board, and I will shortly be purchasing a 2001 Camaro ss and I was wondering how can I tell if it is an M6 or A4? Any input is appreciated. Thanks guys.

Well,

A six speed has either a round ball on top of the shifter, or (in case the Hurst option was checked) an "H" imprinted itn the shifter ****.

The auto has a squarish **** that has a button in the center that you push down to change gears.

Oh, the M6, you have to shift yourself. The automatic shifts for you. But if you have to ask a question like this you should buy a Camaro/Firebird ONLY if it is an automatic. I don't think you'd figure out the whole clutch/ shifting thing anyhow.

letter stands for type of tranny
number stands for number of gears
therefore in M6 m=manual 6=6 gears
in A4 A=automatic 4=4 gears,
another easy way to know is if you don't have 3 pedals it's an a4

I think i misphrased my question. I didn't know what M6 or A4 meant, as for not being able to figure out how to shift, I've always driven a manual. Thanks again.

I wasn't trying to be too hard on the kid, (if you're referring to my comment), but c'mon. I was 6 years old and could tell the difference btwn an auto and a manual car. Furthurmore, NineBall has posted at the top of this forum, a sticky that explains all of the abbreviations used on the site. If the kid was trolling, stop there first. The first post in the sticky explains M6=manual and A4=automatic.

Yeah, I was a little rough on a newb , but someone was rough on me here once, and it made me a better poster.
