So, yesterday my friends and I continued work on my car, we-

took timing cover off, removed AIR pump, did cam swap, replaced oil pump (what a pain!) and timing chain, cut the stock y-pipe off at the mid-pipe (stock exhaust manifolds had already been cut and removed by this time)

This morning while doing a little cleaning and prepping for work today I found these little buggers, primarily toward the front of the car and to the driver side, but also toward the back of the car on driver side. All of them seemed clean (except for a dirt particle from the ground), no grease or anything on them. I thought it could have been ***** to my dying creeper but the bearings on that appear larger.

My biggest fear is that these look like cam ball bearings to people (do the points in which the cam rotates in the block have ball bearings, or just bushings?). I was nice and easy when removing the old and did not see or hear bearings and such fly out but then again I was more focused on keeping the cam lined up and easing it out.

What possibly has ball bearings of this size? I've also previously removed a dying alternator that seems to squeak as you turn it, may have not noticed the ***** until now, unlikely though.

definitely not from anything inside the engine and i dont know how they could have come out of the alternator without the shaft moving around. havent done anything else in there recently you are forgetting about.

Does the Crank Pulley have ball bearings like this? pulled that on friday.

EDIT- looked at it, its the stock crank pulley, and I don't believe there are bearings on it in the first place, but checked to be sure.

THAT is a possibility, I found my jack without a wheel as well, BUT it does not appear to have ball bearings or a place for them, will check again though.

EDIT- checked, and there seems to be no ball bearings or a place for them just a bushing for the front wheels (of which one came off, both spin about the same and have the same small wobble), ball bearings remain unexplained... I've been using ramps primarily and the floor jack was to maneuver the exhaust back in place.

There is nothing IN OR ON your engine that had those ball bearings, Its gotta be from something else in the garage....

Wonderful! I had prepared for this major overhaul (my first real work on the car) by going over repair manuals, forums, howto's etc. so I had a fair understanding of the innards but an expert I am not (yet). Its a relief to know its not from the car.

Thanks all for the help, I'm sure something bearing-less will turn up someday...

i agree with the muffler bearings. lol. i know for a fact that the rear bearing on the alternator has ball bearings. if the rear bearing brakes apart the ***** will fall out. happened on 2 of my brothers cars.

I don't have an idea where those came from. Certainly not the engine.

the pulley i removed by the alt has those size bearings in it

What about the roller lifters , I've never had 1 apart . They could be either round roller bearings or needle bearings ? The alternator usually has roller bearings in the front and needle bearings in the rear . Good luck

could be from the swivel on top of your wheel from your floor jack. not from the wheel itself, if it even had swivels.
