Default Picked up a used short block, what to look for before assembling?

Picked up a LT1 shortblock minus the cam, cylinder walls look ok, no scratches or anything. What should I look for to make sure this is ok before I build her up.

Dont plan on machining the engine if not needed, ran when pulled, just want to check it over and reassemble.

While you're there I would certainly upgrade the OEM rod bolts to some ARP 7/16".

if you know the motor was in good running condition there should be no need to pull it apart.......if you want to you can pull a rod cap and a main just to see what the bearings look like but if it was properly maintained it should be fine.......ARP rod bolts are a decent idea but......

Joe how are you going to put 7/16" bolts in a rod designed for a 3/8" stud without machining the rod????

it was my shortblock. The cam bearings are going to need replacing but other than that it was in fine running condition.

That's how. I didn't respond entirely because posting from my phone is painful.

well the motor has 130k miles on it and before I did the cam swap, I went too long without changing the oil n i think it fucked up the cam bearings. I think Mike will probably tear it down anyways but I just figured I'd put in that it was mine and what I knew.

I may just end up redoing the entire engine if the bearings are shot, ill inspect it and if so, I mind as well build up a nice 355 to throw in the 94 when the current engine craps out. Heres a pic of the engine sitting in the garage...

Thinking if I do rebuild the engine, going with forged pistons, rods checked and ARP bolts installed, 847 or similar cam for the short block.

So did you divulge this information prior to the block being sold or just now?
