For the guys who did the lt1 to gen3-4 swap, has anyone ran tight on their budget and considered using the lt1 o2 sensors by splicing the wires together? As I understand it, both the lt1 and the gen3 sensors are heated but use different type connectors. Im just trying to see if i can save a 100 bucks or so.

Maybe...but 02 wires are more than just wires. They are open, or have holes in them that allow the wires to breathe. Now, if you mean by pulling apart the connector, that will need somone else to chime in to tell you.

The universal O2 sensors are a cut and splice so I don't see why this won't work.

But, I've been wrong before.

i spliced on my o2 sensors off my v-6 s-10 and they work fine.

I understand that you can crimp the wires, but you can not solder them for some reason. Maybe you need the direct wire to wire contact or something....

Im gonna give it a try before buying some new LS specific ones. I actually have a bad set of ls1 sensors that im going to cut the connector off and crimp it onto the lt1 sensors. Hopefully all goes well. Thanks for the help fellas.

Been running the slightly cheaper LT1 HO2s for nearly a year without issue

99-03 trucks used the 4 wire flat HO2s up front from the factory. The signals are compatible

Okay now, can someone confirm for me if theres a difference in the 5.3 and 5.7 ls1 o2 sensor connectors. Both are the square 4 plug type but the 5.7 ls1 o2 connector will not match up to the trucks 5.3 harness connector. I thought all of these bastards were the same?

There is a difference. LT1/early truck fronts on the left. Fbody and later GEN III trucks on the right. GEN IV trucks switched to a complete new HO2 style

The reason you cant solder 02 sensor wires is because the sensor actually pulls air through the wires to sample against. If you solder, you seal all the wires together and slightly melt the insulation, sealing it to the wire.

The problem im having is that the sensors connector is not plugging into the harness connector. Both connector ends are like the squared one in the above pics. Anyone else run into this problem? I thought by crimping the squared ends onto the sensors that they would fit up to the harness connector but it aint happening. Although all the squared sensors may look the same, there is a difference. Looks like im going to be buying new application specific ones afterall.
