Build your own SFCs?
Now that I have stiffer springs & shocks on
the convertible I can see why the 1LE was not
an option for them; I can now feel chassis flex
where the stock springs never "challenged" the
body structure. Especially over bad bumps.
From the looks of the SFCs out there, there's
not much to 'em. And from crawling under the
car it looks like a couple of pieces of angle stock
would weld up easy to the reinforcement sheet,
for the straight flex part - maybe more solid than
the few-point box stock SFCs I see out there.
As far as triangulation, a bolted true X-member
(or Roman X?) I could certainly MIG up, to attach
directly to the "frame" channel braces. Can't see
how those diamond SFCs help much, that way, when
they bolt to same-side sheet metal and then strap
across with another (tunnel brace) sheet.
Has anyone gone this way? Is there good stiff angle
steel out there (like CrMo?). Don't see anything but
mild cold rolled and aluminum at the local welding
supply.
