Not really, new headunit. My brother has one out of his 08' GT/CS he is selling if that would work.

Probably the easiest method.

Probably the cheapest method, since you could probably find one that needs repair but looks great. I went this method for my car and mixed and matched buttons/plates/internals to get a great condition headunit. Just took a lot of patience.

From what my friend said, I guess this head unit would be the Ford Mustang equivalent to the GM F-Body "upgrade" Monsoon head unit. ... Anyone happen to know how I can search online for a used or broken one? .. If I can strip a faceplate w/ buttons off a junked one, I bet that would be the best route to take.

I guess it's called a Shaker 500 or something.

... No idea! He just bought it and that's how the stereo face looked.

Apparently the guy he got it from is just plain nasty, and never washed his hands. The oils from your skin (especially if your Ph is out of wack) will cause that.

Another vote for purchasing a nice looking, but broken, stock radio and swapping the faceplate. I've done it to the Monsoon radios, it's fairly easy and it can make a world of difference.

Some brush on black paint will work. He won't be able to read what the buttons say though, but at least they won't look so ugly.
