Default Car died yesterday in the cold weather

besides the issue i posted in this post here about the rough vibration
https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...ow-speeds.html

the car had been running fine, wife was driving home after picking up our daughter and said it was acting like it was going to die...she managed to pull into a parking lot and waited til i got there, i got in the car and started right up, i was able to rev up the motor and it responsed fine, but she said that while driving it, there was a point where she gave it gas and didnt respond at all to that.. since it started and reved up for me, i tried to drive it home, we were only half mile from the house on a straight shot, well with our side of town being in a black out at the moment, all street lights were out, so after a good 5 minutes it started acting like it was just giving up.. then it did.. when i turned it off and back on, it was like it couldnt breathe and just choked and died again.. i had to push it back into the parking lot and get it towed later when the power in the area came back on since we went to stay with some friends.. but either way.. while it was running fine for me.. the battery was at its normal level, the oil was at its normal pressure, the temp was normal, gas showed to have right under a 1/4 tank and at idle it was around 500, which i dont think its been that low before.. it seemed almost like it wasnt getting any gas, but not sure if that really is the problem..

Where should i start on checking things to pin point the issue?

Could a clogged cat cause anything like this? i ask because the driver side is throwing the mil light and just wondering if the car cant breathe properly would it react like this?

thanks.

A bad cat could cause problems like that.. From what I've seen, the car/truck will usually stay running but won't go above a certain mph.. Can you hear your fuel-pump prime when you turn the key forward? Might check fuel pressure at the rail if you can.

Iced up fuel line. Dump a bottle of methanol-based "dry gas" in the tank, let it sit for an hour or two, then re-test.

Can the fuel filter go bad or clog so soon? I just changed it middle part of last year.. i mean its only a few dollars to replace, just wondering.

As for checking the fuel pressure, what tools or equipment will i need to get in order to check? and when i do check, what should the pressure be? Its a stock 99 TA

So did you ever check fuel pressure???? Lack of fuel can cause your lean & misfire codes...

Exactly. I never even knew that was possible until I ran out of gas in the 'Z one night. SES started flashing and I started thinking of the worst. Turns out my lying gas gauge didn't tell me I was out of gas...

that is how it works!! when you rent a tool they charge you and when you return it you get your money back!! but is always good too have your own tools!! also it takes the same time to check the fuel pressure then what it took to check for trouble codes!! 2-3 min

did you check your maf and air filter? i know i sounds off but i had a problem years ago where my idle would just drop to 450 and stay there and once i gave it enough gas it started moving then drove semi normal, then a SES code popped up for a bad 02 sensor. turned out it was a few things (this was right after i purchased the car from a dealership who bought it from an auction in arizona) the maf was so dirty it was sending the wrong info to the comp and the intake itself was coming off from the tb (that was causing the idle) the fuel filter was clogged full of **** (lack of power) when you have a clogged fuel filter or vacuum leak your car sucks. good luck!

Well the real problem, the one causing the misfiring and codes, is the improper fuel delivery. My car started misfiring and throwing codes because it was running out of gas. For you, it could be anything from the fuel pump all the way to the injectors. At this point you really need to take those fuel pressure readings when the key's "ON," while the engine is running (if it runs) and after you turn it off (leakdown pressure values). Let us know when/if you get that gauge...

here is the fuel pressure, def way below normal

with key on

I tried to turn it on and started, if you want to call it a start for 2 secs and died, pressure dropped a few, but not much, and after it was off with no key, stayed the same..
