Wanting 6.0 Aluminum Block Engine Info
Looking at a 6.0 stamped aluminum block ,heads and was looking to find more info on these being I do not know what it came out of. How do you figure what year it is? Wanted to find out if one year or application was stronger than another if building one from scratch. It is going in a F body so I wanted to know if the front cover would interchange being this cover has a hole in the center for some sort of cam sensor or dod crap. Plan on building a NA 600 rwhp out of it so was looking for the weak points. If you were going to Darton sleve a LS block would it be better to do this one or a 5.7 LS one?How do you tell what is a LS 2,3 L whatever engines these are?
Will my Jesel rocker setup from a cathedrial port LS1 heads work on these square port heads?
Thanks for the direction!
Chris

Sounds like an LS2 block . I don't remember the casting #'s but take a look @ the back of the block on the driver's side . You should see an 8 digit casting # . The hole in the timing cover is for the cam sensor . GM moved it from the back of the cam to the cam sprocket . I'm not aware of there being a rectangle port head on a 6.0 aluminum block but it wouldn't surprise me . These late model blocks are very strong and are more affordable to sleeve than LS1 blocks . The LS1 blocks are a wet sleeve design so you have limited choices whereas the LS2 and later aluminum blocks are a dry sleeve design and have a few more options for sleeving . The dry sleeve will handle your build without issue . You could look @ an LS3 block, stroke it, and put one of the small bore LS7 or TFS heads on it and hit your goal . Your cathedral port Jesel rockers will not work on rectangle port heads so you'll have to sell them to me cheap

Good start and thanks for the info! I figured that as soon as I started piling parts for a build I would outgrow them before the assembly started.
I have both engines so did not know what one to do?
