Is it even worth rebuilding the 4l60?

Is it even worth rebuilding the 4l60? If my goal is to run mid to high 10's is it even worth rebuilding my 4l60? I currently run around 12.1 @ 115 with just headers and fast 90 and will be putting in a 238 duration cam and was going to try to get the car into the high 10's cam only by cutting the weight and adding some rear suspension.

I should clarify why I ask, I am putting the car back to stock for a smog so since its all apart I felt since I got some tax money I should either rebuild my 4l60 or go with a powerglide or th400. I want a 4l80 but I can't afford it and found some good prices on built th400's and powerglides with transbrakes already in them. Does anyone have some consensus on drivability in a trans without overdrive on a street driven car?

With 4.56 gears it will not be fun at hiway speeds. The 60e can live at those power levels but will cost some coin. I'm thinking 3-5k with new convertor included. I'm right at 10.1's and still running a 60e. If a track only car then turbo 350 or glide would be my choice 400's eat up too much power.

So the theory that a 400 eats more power is not necessarily true.

Ok I'll bite . Explain how? Maybe with new technology. It has been documented that they take more power to turn. They are heavier and once you reach single digits most people go to a glide, unless its a pig of a car or truck.

I know how to rebuild transmissions myself so it would be only parts. I have looked into what a lot of the companies performance transmissions consist of and I could buy all parts and have my current converter freshened up for about 1100 so that was why I was considering it. I just know if I have to go with a different trans I will have to buy a new converter, crossmember, and the parts to do a good rebuild myself or buy a ready to go one and either way spend close to 3k for a good setup and if I go a little higher I can get the 80e and still have overdrive.

Turbopig I think for what your car is a 4l60e would be fine. Just make sure to put some good stuff in it and you will be fine. If you have any other questions let me know. Vince
