Default Rear o2 sensors and Cali emissions

I made the mistake of simply cutting my rear o2 sensors off a few years ago. How fucked am I? Can I keep the codes deleted and get away without the sensors LEGALLY? Do I need to figure out a means of rewiring sensors in? What are my options?

Thanks in advance and I'll see you in SoCal in 3 months!

If u have no cats then u don't need them. But the check engine light will still come on because it thinks the cats are bad.

I'd get the rears 02s turned off and keep the sensors in place

I already cut the sensors off, years ago. The current tune has them turned off (obviously), but I am coming down in cam size to pass the sniffer so I will be retuning anyway. With the long tubes off and stock manifolds in place, would it be best to plug in some dummy autozone-ish sensors in the back and keep the tune hiding the lack of rear 02s as it is? Is that something I could get caught for?

if all the rear 02 codes are turned off it automatically sets that readiness test to complete, therefore that portion of your smog test is fine

Well that sets me at ease considering I've planned on having you do my tuning since I decided to move to San Diego. I hope to be scheduling with you soon!

My experience going to a "lenient" smog shop about 4 years ago.

My car was close to passing, even without cats, but the fact my rear 02s were deleted, I could not pass. He said with 02 sims I would have been fine.

What was the specific problem? The non-readiness code? I thought that could be effectively tuned to off as per Ryne @ CMS? What did you do to get it on the road?

I believe the problem was they were not "reading" anything. They were tuned out.

I "paid" to get it on the road. The smog tech was being nice and trying to pass me the traditional way.

That's weird, I have always thought that tuning them out would pass you automatically.

My only guess is the machine/computer he was using was telling him the sensors needed to read something, and they were not (because they were tuned out).

I'm guessing they were not tuned out properly, unless someone else knows something else about this.

if all of the rear o2 settings are not deleted (not just the ones that will throw codes) the readiness test will fail.... been down this path quite a few times, if done properly the readiness test will pass

My rear 02 sensors have been deleted for years and I have never had an issue smogging my car

There we go, that makes sense.
