Help Installing Viper Alarm
Can i install a viper alarm in my 2000 camaro ss by myself because i already have the alarm it came out of a 2001 blazer extreme i know how to wire stuff up and everything i just need to know how do install the alarm and how hard it will be thanks in advanced

most directed electronic products are easy to install follow you're wiring diagram in the book for the viper and the wiring info on this sheet. be sure to use a digital multimeter to test all wires to make sure they are what you want to hook up to. good luck

and do i really need a multimeter that bad

as doing this for a living i can say if you're not going to use a multi meter there is no point in doing it you could tie into an airbag wire by mistake and KABOOOM!!!!! some people get away with test lights but they are know to set off airbags if you test the wrong wire ans well as potentially blow some fusees. As for the diagram for the Viper what is the model of the Viper? for most units the colors go as follows.
Yellow=Switched ignition source
Red=Constant power
Black=Ground
White=Parking lights (this is switchable either + or - polarity)
Orange=not needed
black and white=not needed
Brown=Siren output
Green purple and blue on the same harness are you're triggers, green is door trigger, blue is trunk hatch trigger purple is not used
Green and blue on their own plug are you're door locks
These are all the correct color codes for a current viper model and they rarely change but get me the model off the viper and ill grab the manual from work.
Yellow=Switched ignition source

Black=Ground
White=Parking lights (this is switchable either + or - polarity)
Orange=not needed
black and white=not needed
Brown=Siren output

The red wire off the viper connects to the red wire coming off the key cylinder (thicker wire that always will show 12v)
The yellow wire off the viper will connect to the Pink wire coming off the key cylinder (thicker gauge shows 12v only when key is at the run position right before crank)
the black wire (thinner) off the viper you put a ring terminal on and attach to a factory bolt attached to a good amount of metal
the green (thinner) wire off the viper is door trigger it will connect to the gray with a black stripe wire coming off the BCM to test this the voltage will change with the dome-light turning on and off.
The two wires green and black that are thicker are you're starter kill relay you take the starter wire on the car Yellow wire (thicker gauge coming off key cylinder) (there may what looks like a yellow wire but it may not be it may be a yellow shield with multiple wires inside DO NOT TOUCH THIS IS AND AIRBAG WIRE. also yellow plugs are airbag wires too!!!) and cut the wire in half one end goes to the green wire the other to the black wire.
the siren red wire already as stated will attach to the brown off the viper the black wire will be grounded to another good metal point.
to do trunk pop u need to go to Napa or other auto part store and grab a relay. to wire the relay you have to follow these instruction to do trunk pop. the red and white stripe off the viper will go to port 85 on the relay, port 86 and 87 will attach to a constant 12v source (can attach to our red off our key cylinder) and port 30 will wire to Brown wire in the blue plug on the BCM. to test this wire it will sit at 0v when probed the jump to 12v when you press the trunk release button in the car.
The white wire off the viper is parking lights it has to options there is a switch for it to change if it throws out 12v or a ground signal. if it throws out a 12v you connect it to the brown wire at the headlight switch to test the brown wire you should have 0v on the meter with the lights off then when you flip parking lights on you will get 12v
Locks!!

Every connection you need with the exception of ignition power (and the siren of course) is available at the BCM so there is no need to mess with wires near the steering column where the airbag wires are located.
It is best to get ignition power from the fuse panel. There are ports there specifically designed by GM for adding accessories. They are labeled BATT, ACCY, and IGN. The IGN port is the one you want for this purpose.
The other wires at the BCM:
(Viper primary harness)
RED wire in black connector: Battery power to Viper red wire
BLK wire in black connector: Ground to Viper black wire
BLK/WHT wire in position C8 of blue connector: Parking light relay trigger (-) to Viper white wire (must change jumper for negative output)
BRN wire in position D4 of the blue connector: Hatch release signal to Viper white/blue wire
GRY/BLK and BLK/WHT in positions D11 and D12 of the blue connector: Door ajar signal to Viper green wire
ORN/BLK in blue connector: Instant trigger for hatch open to Viper blue wire (also use this if you add a hood pin switch)
Connect the Viper yellow wire to the IGN port in the fuse panel. Connect the Viper brown wire to the positive side of the siren. The other wires in this connector are not used.
(Viper secondary harness)
GRY wire in green connector: Arm system to Viper green wire
GRY/BLK wire in green connector: Disarm defeat to Viper red wire
TAN wire in green connector: Disarm system to Viper blue wire
RED/BLK in green connector: Lock all doors when arming to Viper white wire if using passive arming - otherwise it has no use. Be careful with this because it makes it possible to lock your keys in the car.
The starter disable can be connected to the YEL/BLK wire in the blue connector of the BCM (I'm not sure of the equivalent Viper wire color). This is the starter relay coil ground wire so no additional relay is necessary.
Doing everything at the BCM is not only easier but it also puts the alarm brain and wiring in a location that would be less obvious to thieves. The alarm module can be mounted way up above the glovebox to make it hard to tamper with.

Yes and no. Would the wires mentioned for the car be the same... yes. Would the wires mentioned for the alarm system be the same... probably but you should check the installation instructions. Is it a good way to wire an alarm... no. Tapping into various power wires at the steering column is never a good idea. Use the list above where almost all connections can be made at the BCM - it's safer, easier and more secure.

If you're lucky, the list of wire colors you got with the alarm will match up with the wire colors and functions listed above and you'll be good to go. For example, if your list shows the Viper white/blue wire is for hatch trigger then you know it's the same as discussed. Even if the Viper wire colors have changed, the functions are probably still the same so you could match them up that way.
