I was over at a friends shop the other day and came up with a idea for a pre lube tool. He has an old stainless steel water fire extinguisher and I was checking it out. It got me to thinking that I could take the filler off the dip tube, put the proper fittings on the hose, fill it with oil and use it to pre lube my engine. You can charge them with 100psi of air so I will set the regulator on my air compressor and leave it hooked up to power it. I just bought one on e-ghey for $39.99 shipped.

I thought about doing the same thing with an old propane cylinder.

What didn't seem promising was how to keep all the oil from running back out of the galleries when I unbolted it from the engine.

In the end I just did what GM says to do when starting their crate motors, pull the plugs and crank it for 30 seconds at a time until I got oil pressure. A lot less messy that way.

There where a few threads that talked about these pre-lubers.. on that is marked by a vendor and the other that was writen up in Car Craft (?)... These along with Accumulators.

Well, I'll get mine prelubed sometime soon. Looks like a nice little unit; just expensive. However, premature engine failure is more expensive....

all you need is the basic moroso accumulator for about $50. Fill it with 1 qt of oil and hook it up and put a little air to it.

I have used mine twice on dads and had the oil pump doing its job before the car even fired on inital start up.
