09 4L60e has no gear position sensor, 07 does?
I don't know what GM calls the sensor, but Ford calls it the MLPS sensor. It mounts where the shift cable connects to the transmission and senses the position of the shifter.
Here's my problem. I have an 09 5.3 LMG tahoe engine that I pulled with all of the wiring. I am swapping it into a K5 Blazer.
The 09 4L60e transmission does not have one of these shifter position sensors from the factory, and there is no wiring in the harness for this. My 09 engine unfortunatly had a 2WD transmission, so I removed it and purchased an 07 4L60E transmission configured for 4WD. The 4WD transmission has this gear position sensor.
How do I wire it in? I was planning to use the 09 engine computer and the 07 transmission computer. Does someone have a pinout for the 07 trans computer showing this?
Thanks!
Brian

May be a dumb question but are you posititve it is a 4L60E and not a 6-speed automatic?

The later 4L60E, 4L65E, and 4L70E transmission have the park/neutral and PRNDL functions built in to the transmission. You can see it by looking at the round connector plugged in to the transmission, the newer one's with this feature built in have almost all of the pins used, whereas on the earlier 4LxxE transmission, there were usually around 13 pins used.
It scares me to think that a wiring harness manufacturer is not familiar with this.

this is all great news, it will make the rewire easy because it means they are already pinned out from the TCM. I was afraid that somehow they deleted the sensor and managed to make it work without it.
Do you know where I can get a wiring diagram for an 07 TCM, 09 5.3 ECM, and the pinout for the round connector on the 09 transmission?
Thanks!

I am back or more
1. The schematic for the 07 TCM/Trans shows 3 shift solenoids (1-2, 2-3, and 3-2). The schematic for the 09 TCM/TRANS shows two shift solenoids (1 and 2). I am trying to use an 09 TCM with an 07 trans. Is this not possile because the 09 TCM doesn't have the 3-2 shift solenoid?
2. I am trying to wire up the round connector from my 09 harness to an 07 transmission. The problem is that I can get a 20 pin connector view for the 07 transmission, but not the 09. I have checked both TIS and alldata. Any idea where I can get the 09 20 pin connector view?
Thanks,
Brian

I have done both a 07' 4l60 and 09' 6l80 swap. If I recall correctly the 4l60 has the PNP on the side of the transmission. The transmission range data is sent to the T42 TCM (external) then via the bus to the ECM.
The 6l80 runs the PNP inside the transmission, data is sent to the TCM-T43 inside the transmission then sent to the ECM via the can bus. There are no external PNP wires to tap into.
You can use a can interface to pull the PNP data from the bus.

I know, I am running into the exact same thing. But I actually pulled this trans from a 09 tahoe, and it had no PNP sensor on the side. See attached pic

It looks like your main issue must have been the 4WD vs. 2WD, as the PNP switch could have easily been added to your 09 trans. On a swap the PNP switch is only good for the neutral safety switch and backup lights though.
Using the 07 trans you'll need to follow your 07 pinout and rewire the harness from the trans to the TCM, and then reflash the ECM and TCM as an 07 to get it to all work right.
When they moved the range switch inside they got rid of the internal pressure switch, so the 09-10 4L60E's operate a lot different than the previous ones.
You can usually ID the LS Series 4L60E/65E/70E transmissions by the pin count in the round connector.
98-06: 13 pin,
07-08 (and a few 06 models): 15 pin
09-10: 17 pin

great info, thanks. You are correct, the whole reason I didn't just use the 09 transmision is because the tailshaft was incorrect and I was able to find a low miles 07 4WD 4l60e transmission for cheap.
A few questions
1. Are the 07 and 09 TCM the same, other than the software loaded in them? I just want to be sure if I use the 09 TCM and reflash it that it will have the hardware inside the ECU to operate the 07 transmission correctly.
2. It looks like I will have to add some pins to the ECU connector that are not populated in my 09 harness to drive the 07 transmission. Any idea where I can get the pins from?
3. Any idea where I can get the connector view for the 17 pin round connector? GM TIS was wrong for my VIN.
Thanks,
Brian

got another subscription to GM service info. Ifinally found the C175 connector view. It didn't show up because it is an inline harness connector.

A dealer can probably give you a few pins.

Yeah, you just have to figure out their system. It changed around 2008.
