Default Cost to do an s10/ls1

Lets see the best deals/ cheapest combo including truck purchase.. Im trying to see if its worth it for me to build one as a project and then sell to either break even or make a few bucks on..

I have good resources, i guess its all about finding the right deals tho. If you can tell me what you have into yours $$ wise and possibly what these sell for.. ls1/s10 base set up.

im at the extreme side since i started from scratch. 88 s15 rust bucket. replaced every body panel, 3500 dollar paint, suspension, wheels, lq4. when i say everything i mean everything!!!!!. 13 grand in mine over the years. swap costed me 5k including the 6.0. it could easily be done much cheaper though. just depends on how clean you want the truck

You can get complete 5.3s (harness, PCM, Accessories, everything) for $500 with enough scrounging and a willingness to tear apart a junk truck yourself.

After that the only cost is the truck and parts to bolt the engine in.

yeah i read a swap sticky on another forum about a guy who does tons of lsx swaps.

i remember him talking about a bare bones swap...5.3...truck intake, accessories you'd need. using the stock tranny...runs about 1300 for the swap. this was getting the motor for about 400 bucks. granted this is having the vehicle, and using that tranny.

he also talked about adding some things in, still bare bones, plus a newer 4spd auto tranny, costing around 2 grand for the swap.

ill try and send a link here.

Don't worry, you won't make money or even break even. A decent job is very costly. Harness alone is $800+.

My 6.0L/S475/4L80E swap has run me about $12k

I've tried to document everything that I had to buy, whether it was the motor, bolts, raw materials, etc.

Once I'm done, I'm sure I'll be more around $15k

http://chevythunder.com/index.htm link is at bottom of page for cheapest new harness I've found.
Stock re worked is cheapest

98-99 fbody manifolds -$75 - get the tubing stubs to save money if they are in good shape.

Make your own brackets similar to Kwik kits, use 3rd gen fbody ac compressor or remove with Fbody damper and vette ps pump. -1 way to do it-

Fans -$75

radiator $75

put rad in core support or run oval tubing for inlet tube w/ cone filter in stock late model location.

Don't use stock v6 4l60, it has fewer 3rd clutch plates than v8. T350 is way cheap

oil pan - at least $100 unless your pull out has one that fits. I think fb fits.

PCM program $150 min unless you know someone with HPt or efilive, then it's about $100 at cost.

Use fbody mounts and make your own frame plates -$10 to $100-

Just curious.
What about just dropping in a bare bones carbed 5.3, heck even a 4.8?
Granted its not an LS1 but it's still an LS based swap.

TurboS10,
Thanks for the link. Thats a great deal.
