Default 400+ rwhp from stock bottom end

Hey guy I was on ls1lt1 but i noticed this site has alot more people on it so i figured i would try for advice here.

I got 3k to spend and am trying to get over 400rwhp, but 430 is optimal

I am not going to change up the bottom end so here is my plan so far..

since on im budget im gonna try and get everything used... almost everything

--ported heads- either send in mine to LE or AI, or buy a used set of ported trickflows or somthing...from ebay or this site
--58mm throttle body with the intake man. ported to 58mm opening as well.
--ARP bolts-new
--30lb for red tops
--either Granatelli or racetronix 255 fuel pump
--gasket kit
--custom grind cam... unless one of you have a suggestion of a cam that makes this power at or under 6300

now my questions are...
i know i need 1.6rr, pushrods and guideplates... I know about the rockers but im not sur about the pushrods and guideplate, like what length and what is good. so maybe some part numbers that would work with my heads and motor?? like i said i dont know alot about that area...

will the stock valve covers fit the 1.6 rr with the larger cam?

andd is this the completelist of stuff i would need to do the head and cam swap, or should i do little things like timing chain?

I have all the supporting mods like built trans and full bolt ons. and the water pump and opti is new, along with a 500 horse radiator.... so im just working on the motor now

thanks

Youll have to measure for pushrods. Guideplates, I'd get the trickflows.

Have AI or LE get you cam for what ever heads you end up with. Pushrods length will depend on the heads if they have been milled, you may or may not want to do pistons and or rings. A good tune will be key to making the numbers on a dyno but what are you using it for? Yes do a chain at the least. May want to go with racetronics delphi 32lbers. they fit a lot better and make sure they are flow matched so you get nice even fuel to make that power.

This is going to be a street car.... just something fun to play around with my friends with...

Ill look into the racetronixs... i just have so many people telling my good things about the red tops...
and if im guessing the people at LE or AI can tell me the proper pushrod length after they have ported it?
is that all i would need to make the head a complete package? the rr pushrods and guideplates?

also the valve covers? will stockers fit?

I use the red tops...nothing bad to say about them they are just trickey to fit is all. I was told the red tops or the racetronics but the red tops are cheaper.
You have to cut the braces in the valve covers

k well im a fabricator so that should be easy.... do the braces run down the length of the cover? like front of the engine to back?

I think i have this build totaled to around 2700. sound about right?

There are write ups and national magazine write ups with pics on this site and others about how to mod those valve covers to make them fit. just google it and you should find some. I never get to hung up on dollar amounts because what ever I think it's gona cost... it usually cost double.

I saw those heads, AI uses Genuine Pacalloy 1220 Beehive Springs, not Comp cams 86918 Beehive as stated in the ad..I don't know...I'd rather just send my own stuff to AI or LE...

I have 430rwhp on the stock bottom end. I disagree on Ai and LE being able to get you there. I've had both and only 1 got me there.

In order to really achieve your goals you have to get rid of the budget mindset, to a degree.

What not all info on the internet... say it isnt so..

We are lucky to have a couple of head porters catering to LT1s, I thinnk either will be money well spent.

I have used red tops on ly LT1s and l98s for over 20 years without a problem.

Pretty much. All I did was bolt on he heads and swap the cam then headed to my tuner. My cam peaks around 6400 though and it will pull all the way to 7k without giving anything up. I did still manage to trap 120mph with it short shifting at 6500 since I forgot to have my tuner raise the rev limiter.

I don't agree with this at all. All my car has is normal off the shelf parts. Hell I don't even have an electric waterpump or ported intake manifold.

I said "to a degree." There are a bunch of guys out there who expect to run 10s with a $1000 budget, or expect to do a rebuild for $500. I mean he should prepare for paying more than what he's budgeted himself.
