Thumbs up Yank SS3600 Installed

Finished it today, and I can honestly say that it's the best investment I've made in the car, period. Upgraded from a TCI 3500, and there is *no* comparing a cheap converter to a real one.

What specific differences did you notice? I upgraded to an SS3600 from a TCI 3000, and I didn't notice much difference at all. Sure, I felt good about the billet front cover and better lock-up clutch, but that's not something I noticed driving the car.

I loved the way the TCI drove, just like the Yank. The only difference is that the Yank will flash 500rpm higher off the line. That's it.

Rev, my car had the TCI 3500 in it. I was never happy with the converter and in particular didn't like the lockup clutch. Never had any issues with except it just felt too loose and sloppy to me.

The Yank is a lot more refined feeling. It's hard to explain, exactly, but it feels like a factory-engineered OEM converter that happens to be a 3600 RPM unit. It's smoother but still has a punch when you drop the hammer. Being as I'm still breaking it in (50 miles into the breakin period) I haven't done any WOT runs, just some 1/2-2/3 throttle stuff. At those low throttle openings my tires still didn't have a chance, should be interesting as hell when I get dome drag radials on it and get it to the track.

Don't cheap out! If you don't have the coins then wait and save until you do.

Are you talking to me? If I get a stall it'll be a Yank SS3600...nothing else.

Yep, I've driven cars with converters with that loose and sloppy feel, and like you, I hate it. You're so right that the SS3600 doesn't feel that way. But neither did my TCI 3000. The two drove so similarly that I would forget that I had a new converter after the install. I guess it's a tribute to the Yank to have equal driveability with one that has 600rpm less stall speed. I've been lucky to have been completely satisfied with the converters I've run.

Egott: I was talking to Go On 3.

RevGTO: Being as it's not the easiest thing in the world to swap out, and not the cheapest, either, I did a lot of research first. I drive my car on the street most of the time, the track is a fun distraction... Street manners and longevity were important to me.

I have a stock 6L80 in my G8 and I'm not looking to break it so I wasn't looking at the 3600. It's also my DD car, but I want to stall it because of the 2:92 gears in the rear end just for some more low end performance and to help with my cam being borderline drivable for a stock stall.. How does a 3200 Yank sound to you guys? Sorry for the

Well if I would have known a few weeks ago what I know now, I wouldnt have even considered a 3200 on the maybe list of stalls I was looking at. And right now heh, im borderline "should have gone bigger" and only had the 3600 for a week! Im afraid to say after a month or 2 with this 3600 ill most likely be be kicking myself that I didnt go with the PT4000 I wanted lol Or at least ss4000.
