Default Best cam for Daily Driver?

Hey guys, I'm helping a buddy out with his rebuild. He wants a small cam to boost HP. So what's the best cam that behaves well on the street. And can a small stall converter be daily driven? Thanks guys.

I guess I'll be first - there's a huge cam sticky at the top of the page that'll give you all the off-the-shelf cam info you need including daily driving/manners, etc

stalls up to 4000rpm have been daily driven for years - most people will recommend 3400-3600

Yep, seen it. Read it. Has great information.

But I'm asking for people to suggest a cam and tell me how they were when driven every day. I know which cams gain power and where but how r they on a daily hundred mile commute?

I like the LPE 211/219 it has broad power idles stock with a small rumble, fuel mileage is not affected. Stop and go traffic is just like stock. Of course with any cam proper tuning is always a plus............

I have a retardedly large cam 3200 stall and wouldn't hesitate to drive it 400+ miles.

Idles great, with huge lope.

Driveability is all subjective. Only you can answer that.

I'm actually thinking about after I get tires, water pump, and emissions of using it as my DD again and selling my truck. I probably won't, but it's possible for sure.

The 503 has always sounded pretty good to people just wanting a cam. The LPE would be something different.

The kid is getting his engine overhauled, its got like 160k on the clock and idles with 10psi oil pressure. Of course while its down, he's wanting a cam to gain some HP. The local machine shop in this area priced one of his cams for 300 bux and man was it small. Not much bigger than a stock cam. For 400 he could get a custom cam, lol.

But yeah, he just needs something to boost hp, drive similar to stock, and be reliable. Looks like the CC503 is the top runner at the moment. That and a stall should make him happy.

Either the cc503 or the gm846 would work great to improve power across the board.

10psi isn't great but it's above GM spec

How big is it? Any dyno sheets or track times?

Its not set up for the cam yet. It's under geared (3.42) and low stalled (3200) and recently found out i was rocking a sub 11.7 afr (11.3 commanded at track temp). I have been tuning at operating temp so i know its pretty close to commanded at operating temp. Going to raise the shifts up and i Gotta do some more tuning as soon as emissions are done and straighten out the afr before heading out for real shake down runs. It ran 12.7@107 spinning the whole 60' with all that going on in 1700' DA. Im not too worried.

Never said you were worried. What size is the cam?
