30th Anniversary Wheels So after days of research, talking the Pontiac Division, build sheets, dealer invoices, I have found out the our wheels on our 30th's are NOT anodized, they are high polish aluminum with a clear blue paint on then and a clear coat over top. I'm trying to get the paint code for the blue from Pontiac. Anodized etches the wheel and becomes part of the wheel, and does not fade as fast as most of ours has. I will keep you up to date as Pontiac is tracking the code down for me and would hear somethin back on Monday.

I didnt know that they fade.. makes sense that they arent if they do fade because thats correct anodized won't ever do that based on the principle of it. Interesting to know..

Ok so a little update,
I spoke to one of the original design team members from Pontiac, he told me that there were big problems at pontiac when these wheels were done. There was a paint code used butthe problem was that everytime they mixed up a batch of clear with the blue tint it never matched exactly. So what they did was spray 4 wheels and those 4 wheels stayed together for one car, and the next set and so on. He said that the tint was so tempermental that in most of the cars no 2 cars wheels match exactly. He could not recal the paint code used, but he did say if we had them repainted to make sure all 4 are done at the same time or we will have the same problem. So buying 1 wheel off of eBay is not that good of an idea because the color won't match exactly, and you goin to pay over a grand for a wheel someone has had sitting in there shed to try and rip us all off. I don't think that 1000+ for one of these isn't even worth it now that they can be redone and all we need is the code. Sorry everyone who has been thinking hey would sell you stock pile of wheels for big buck, not anymore:-)

Powder coat is different then both anodizing and painting. Powder coating does a coating that is baked on and can not accomplish a clear/translucent blue color like a blue tinted clear.

I just took my cage in to have powdercoated. When I was there, I was jokingly asked if I wanted a translucent color. This was a new thing to them, but maybe it would work if you had a set polished first, then powdercoated with a translucent color. The owner said he had just done his kitchen faucet in a translucent red. I know thats chrome underneath and the effect may be a little different versus polished, but it may be something to research.

why bother with the stock wheels.
they are 17" and you can not fit bigger brakes
and also too narrow for a performance tire.
After 5 different combos of wheels, tires and brakes I finally got it right.
fronts are 18x10.5's with 295's
baer six pots with 14+" rotors
rears are 18x11.5's with 315's

haha......that's not evening counting all
the money I spent in the progression to get to where she is now
1st set 17" Fikse
2nd set 18" Fikse
3rd set 18" Kinesis
4th set 18" Kinesis anodized blue centers
Moser 12 bolt stock width
Moser 9" stock width
Moser 9" narrowed
Don't even get me started on the brakes,
probably got more money into messing with the brakes than people have in to there entire car.
