Default 2002 ls1 issues, vibrating bad, need expert advice.

the problem is there is a vibration from the engine. at idle the motor rocked, bounced slightly. anything above idle and the engine vibrated worse with the more rpm's added. i unbolted the tq converter and removed belts and engine still vibrated. new poly(what a bitch) motor mounts and the problem is alot more noticeable. so the motor mounts did'nt fix it. motor does not bouce or rock anymore thats for sure.

here is a run down on things i have done to try and cure this problem.

i have replaced
plugs
wires
motor mounts with poly's
o2's

i have done
compression check all 8 185psi +/-
visually checked belts, balancer, trans mount, everything looks ok.

things to note..

transmission looks like it has been removed before. there are some noticeable body work.

thats all i can think of for now. i need real help. i'm thinking it's down to flexplate, internal engine, or balancer. can the flexplate be installed wrong or a wrong flexplate installed, is that possible?

motor runs on all 8 and sounds great. the balancer looks ok to me.. thats all i have for now.

Is it a "new" car to you? purchase it recently? or had it for a while?
is this problem something which started now? worked before?

i do what to add that i had a flashing cel once a while back. since then i replaced o2's, wires, plugs exc. i do not have any codes but i do unplug the battary when ever i work on it. i do not ever drive the car and thats the reasion i wanted to mention this.

is it possible that the engine is misfiring and not throwing any codes? i parked the car so i only run the engine for 10 mins or less at a time. it has 80k miles on it if that helps. also if it is misfiring how long would it take for the pcm to know it's misfiring?

i can take it down the road if i have to see if the cel pops.

i have a scanner but it's more of a code reader. innova 3160 or 3150

somthing i was thinking about at dinner..

could a bad spring, lifter, rocker, or push rod cause the engine to vibrate? i was thinking that could be possible because i dont have a cel. but i have read where people have trouble and the cel is not on.

compression is 185psi +/- across all 8. just thinking and adding ideas here...

Hi,
i'm sorry you are having issues. Your post sounds more like a balance issue.
Have you unbolted the flexplate ?????????? Any changes/improvement?
Harmonic balancer or perhaps counter weight on crankshaft......... I would expect a large mass ofject to create the vibration as described.keep me posted and have a blessed week........captain jim

i unbolted the tq converter from the flexpate and removed the belts and ran the motor with no change.

i have reasion to believe the trans was removed once before. so it could be somthing with the flexplate.

i'm going to double check the trans mount again. for some reasion i just need to know if it's good or not.

stupid question, i did a compression check and all cyl was good so can i assume my valves are good?

it's like i said before motor sounds great honestly(no ticks, clacks, bangs, smoke), does not feel like it's lost power, but somthing is making a bad vibration. this is getting old. i have had the car for a year and have not had one single day to enjoy it. i dont want to ruin the engine if it's a balance or internal issue. HELP!!

I might be having the same problem except mine only gets worse from idle to about 2000 rpm's. I don't really notice it above that.

dead coil(s) possibly? when you pulled the plugs, did they all show even color/wear? pull your new plugs otherwise and check to see if any of them are wet from unburned fuel or oil.

support the rear half of the engine otherwise and drop that trans and see what may or may not be going on there. though, with no noise, i would hypothetically rule out flexplate problems.

the video would help significantly.
