*Why you need to wrap your headers...part deux*
As if my first experience wasn't enough http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...ader-fail.html , I still didn't wrap my headers.
This time the gadam positive battery cable decided it wanted to fight my headers. Why important wires on my V want to fight the headers I do not know. Right now the damage is $750, I'm hoping that it didn't mess up the headers. If it did than it will go far above $750. Its currently sitting at Sewell Grapevine waiting on the battery cable to arrive. I pray they don't find more damage once they really dig into it.
Side note, the tow truck driver was a muscle car fan and loved the V. He said, "damn, they told me it was a Cadillac, but they didn't tell me is was a CTS-V." He was able to load my V onto his bed without scraping the front or rear.

Are your headers coated?
I just put mine on a week ago, but didnt wrap them or use plug insulators, etc. I am surprised at how well the inside/outside ceramic coating works...my headers are cool enough to touch 5 or so minutes after shutdown.

Ouch, sorry to hear about these misfortunes but thanks for sharing the info so others can avoid this sort of stuff.
Ceramic coating inside/out would probably be a better idea, and for extra insurance wrap the wires/lines with insulated sleeves, etc...
This sucks that has happened though and hopefully this will be the last time!

No idea what the $750 is for. I trust the SA as he is a hard core car guy. His wife drives a V and his garage queen is a 10 second Grand National. He was hoping he could fix it under warranty but the headers melting the battery wire is hard to pass through.
Its the exact same price as the alternator wire fix was. Cable is like $300 and throw a few hours of labor and presto...$750.

I've had my headers for 8k or 9k miles and have the starter side wrapped but the other side is fine and no issues with the oil filter.

I don't know about that cable, but he's right on the alt cable. It's about $250 and runs over the top of the trans and is attached somehow up there. Thus the procedure calls for dropping the trans. That said, mine is now rerouted over the top of the engine.

It sucks that I have to pay that much for a damn battery cable, but it is what it is.

There are cleaner options than using tie wraps ('zip ties'), fwiw I don't trust those things when they are subjected to a lot of heat, if it means it's the only thing holding it from falling onto something so hot it will melt/arc the wire. They are good in an emrgency though and good to carry around in the car, along with duct tape. I've used them on various things, also, but try to find a better, cleaner, permanent solution; especially on a nice car like these.
