Bought an LS6 today!

Bought an LS6 today!
Well I recently purchased a 2000 Z28. Its pretty rough mechanically with a rod knock and abused transmission. I decided instead of going with the junkyard motor swap and taking a chance I would prefer to spend a little extra cash and have peace of mind. Called up the guys at grateenginedepot.com and purchased a new LS6 longblock. I will be swapping over all needed parts from the stock 85k mile LS1. I'm just curious what things I should replace/upgrade while I've got everything pulled apart. I intend to get the tranny rebuilt to hold up to the new power. What else should I do? Thanks and I'll post pics as I start tearing into everything.

I just did this exact swap last winter and I replaced/upgraded the following:
Custom cam w/ upgraded spring kit (springs, retainers, locks)
Hardened push rods (stock length)
LS2 timing chain
Ported the oil pump
Upgraded to 42# injectors
Ported throttle body
Poly motor mounts
Car also has Kooks headers, kooks ORY and Corsa catback plus 3 separate dyno tunes.
If I left anything out, I'll post it up. Good luck.

This is obviously the best time to change the motor mounts, if you want to go that route. Beyond that, if the engine is warrantied, I wouldn't do much to it, if anything. As far as upgrading the trans, I don't think the T56 will have any issues in stock trim handling that engine. Hope the swap goes smoothly.

make sure to use the windage tray from you ls1. you may need to pull the pilot bearing out, you dont have a need for it anyway. im doing the same swap as we speak except i have a t56. be careful with the brake lines and the wiring that comes out with the motor.

Thanks guys.
I'd love to do an EPS cam/spring swap but I'm trying to do this on a budget. I still might depending on what kind of funds I have left after the T56 rebuild.
As far as swapping the windage tray, I'm thinking I need to swap the oil pan anyway since its probably gonna have the caddy pan so that shouldn't be a problem.
Poly mounts: will most likely do this since its cheap and I'm in there anyway.

Yes. You have to ditch the Windage tray, oil pan and pickup and replace with the one off your LS1. Also, you need to swap your harmonic balancer on to the LS6 also.
