Default Ticking Sound?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFlFJ9voKG0

Is it an exhaust leak? Or Lifter. It was very cold out after car warmed up it was fine. Also it did it another time but it only lasted like 2 seconds and went right away.

Maybe? I know I don't worry about it. I had it with the stock 1.7's and still have it occasionally with the 1.8's.

nothin major really for the time being, just annoying as all hell though.

However if you run them like that for a long time, they will eventually stop flowing oil and you know what happens then.....but thats not an immediate threat, the chrysler minivan 3.3/3.8 motors did this like crazy, people drive em anyway with no problem, my mom did on her minivan. But if you beat on it, thats another story. That sound comes from a lifter(s) just being bad, oil deposits built up in it or in rare cases a bent pushrod, I wouldnt leave something that sounds like that in my motor for long

you have the knowhow replace them, or find someone who does

It's the DOD lifters ticking away. Make sure your using the correct oil filter. Some years used anti drain back valves and others didn't.

My car sounded much worse. Put in a new cam with LS7 lifters and now its my pulleys that make noise. Engine is super quite.

If you collapse a lifter you'll throw a missfire code for that cylinder. I'm sure your ok

If it goes away when it warms up its a lifter or a pulley...
Nothing to fret over.

My wifes car is doing the same thing. Plus the car was down 1 1/2qts of oil in 1000 miles, so it will go in on Friday to see what is wrong with it.

Mine has yet to be low or use any amount of oil. Now that it is warm i have not heard it once. And I remote start while standing outside to see if I can hear it.
