vss for 5.3 with th400

vss for 5.3 with th400
will this work for a vss signal? My friend has hp tuners so we an adjust signal. just not sure if the hall effect type sensor is compatible. And do we even need to adjust anything in the pcm since I'm not using a electronically controlled trans? Thanks

Hall Effect type sensor (3 wire) will not work. These sensors output a DC square wave signal. The GM PCM expects an A/C Sine wave signal. You can get a dakota digital sensor from summit racing, SEN-01-4160. 8000 pulse/mile.
The SEN-01-4160 is a pass through, allowing you to still run cable speedo, and supply speed signal to PCM. Dakota also has a version without the pass through, check their website.
You will want to change the pulse/revolution from 40 to about 3.2 I don't use HP Tuners so I'm not sure exactly how its done in HP.

I tried the Summit racing VSS and it simply would not work on my 2007 PCM/TCM.
The problem is the gear reduction in the speedo output where it plugs into takes the 8 pulse per revolution and cuts it down to about 3 pulses per revolution.
You can set the computer to expect to see 3 pulses but at that slow a speed doesn't allow the magnetic field to build much of a signal and instead of 1.5v it only puts out about 400mv. My computer needed a bigger signal and would not work with the summit VSS.
I ended up changing transfer cases to get a factory VSS and all my issues were solved.

so I got the dakota digital unit and I'm wondering on the wiring. the factory harness shows one wire low vss and the other high. dakota vss is one wire ground other to speedometer signal. so witch way do I hook it up? low vss to ground wire and high vss to signal wire? Thanks

However....I don't really think it matters which wire from the dakota sensor you wire to which wire from PCM (20 or 21) as the sensor generates an a/c voltage signal, so polarity does not really matter.

I put a TH-400 in my 94 S10, I used a reluctor ring and VSS out of a full size truck that would've come with a 4L80 transmission. Used the stock TH-400 tail housing. I'm not sure if the pulses are different from trucks to cars, but it's worth a shot.

I'm not sure year motor. The harness connectors is red and blue. I ordered the summit hall effects sensor mentioned in this thread. The green and purple wires from the pcm, are alternating? Do I cut the connector from the pcm? How is the wires on the hall effects sensor wired?
