Wandering if i went to small on CAM???
Hi,
Im in the process of building an ERL434 stroker with TEA Stage 2 LS3 heads with the .660 springs and hollow stems, ported tb and ls3 intake, kooks long tubes, ati dampner, the motor sets at about 11.3:1 compression, I had EPS spec a custom cam for the car here is what they come up with:
237 @ .050 w .618 lift intake
247 @ .050 w .634 lift exhaust
ground on a 114+3
It is going into a pontiac G8 with the 6l80e auto, 3200 yank ss stall. Its not a light car by any means at 4000 pounds and im sure this cam is gonna make a nice flat broad torque curve, but i wander did i leave some laying on the table with it, and will it even have a noticeable idle in an engine with that many cubes.

It will definitely have a noticeable idle, especially if your tuner sets the speed below 800 rpm. Great looking cam. Spot on for your application IMO.

well if you guys feel im in the ballpark im happy i see you both post a lot and i know Pat knows his stuff on cams.
Now i just gotta get the trans tune straight on it once the engines in it so it has a prayer of living lol.
Im hoping for 500-525whp with the combo does that sound to far off?

My guess is you will exceed your rwhp goals. Intake & tb may be biggest restriction of parts you have assembled so far. Sounds like a great build - keep us informed.
Curious, did you build the sleeved block yourself or buy it in short block form?

FAST LSX-R should gain a good bit with a 434 in your car, it gained a bunch on mine and I have stock cubes with some headwork and a decent sized cam. Find one on sale and grab it, a good tuner can get a lot out of them. My power headed south too early, I threw the fast on and with a new tune picked up a ton of power up top along with a decent amount of midrange tq. Gained a couple MPH in the quarter as well so I cant complain. I thought it was worth it as long as your flowing enough air to take advantage of it. I think it got a bad rap when people put it on a stock motor without tuning for it and cried foul when they only gained a couple hp.

Thats a healthy sized cam you wont have any worries about hearing the lump with that thing. You dont need giant cams to make excellent power with these engines. I second above from what Ive seen you should breeze through those whp numbers and then some. Keep in mind its not all about peak power though under the curve is where its at.
EPS cams have been producing stellar results this past year. I bought one too
