Need some advise on modding
Alright so I just purchased a 99 trans am 6spd that is completley bone stock. I have 2 grand to spend on some upgrades. What is the best bang for the buck and what brands should I buy? For exhaust I was thinking the Hooker Catback. Feel free to chime in.

LS6 intake =
Headers and Y-pipe (pacesetter for the bang for buck aspect)
Cat back of your choice (check people's reviews)
Gears (your choice of gear ratio, 4.10's or taller) (check this site for opinions on gear size and cruising rpms)
All in all, should net you around 30rwhp and around half a second in the quarter mile.
Excuse me if I'm wrong Tech, but I'm an auto guy.

dont forget to save money for a dyno tune if you do get a ls6 intake. Id go lid, headers, y, catback (and you may need a tune after that, seems to depend on the car mine needed a tune after CAI and headers some dont) and after that if you still have some cash do some suspension like LCAs, shocks. Your gonna get a hundered differnet opinions on how to do it so first you really need to decide how you want your car to preform

if it were mine...
id descreen the maf, coolant bypass, modify the egr on the intake, cut out the bottom on the factory lower air box. get a high flow lid and filter, go to home depot and get the fernco coulper (nice $6 alternative to a aftermarket bellow) toss on some long tube headers, and your choice for exhaust and tune.
for those free mods, you can search them on here for how to do them... if you go to swap the intake... read up on the ls6 valley cover swap. its a nice thing to do for oil consumption, and keeping your car running stronger... and when you do headers tr-55 spark plugs are great for N/A motors
the ls6 intake isnt worth much until you add heads or camshaft. it will pick up 7 to 10 on a basic bolt on car, but is really worth it when you break the 400 hp mark.

This is just my opinion:
1. Stock 243 heads and upgraded springs (try to get the ones with sodium filled valves)
2. Cam and pushrods - great vendors here w/proven grinds
I like the RAPTR (Thunder Racing) TSP 228R (Texas Speed) G5X2 (LG) F16 (Futral)
3.Longtube headers and y-pipe w/hooker catback or stock catback w/cutout
Finally get a tune.
or - just spray it.
I have seen an 02 SS w/stock 243 heads - long tubes, lid and G5X2 trap 119mph
I have also seen an 02 ws6 w/stock 243 heads - lid and 125 wet shot trap 122mph

Stock (screened) MAF is not a restriction until 450 or so hp. Plus, descreening it makes it a bitch to tune properly.
Cutting out the bottom of the air box will gain you nothing except a mangled lower air box.
Using a smooth bellow vs the stock bellow will gain you nothing.
Instead of the valley cover, run a oil catch can.
He already has the LS6 intake.

Hooker catback is a waste of the 2grand..... tsp has a header and exhaust package... and a cam kit for about 850....gears are a useless mod aswell. Get a lid, ud pulley, smooth bellow and pp tb to go with the headers for starters...when you get more $ built up get a cam...or suspension...y pipe will be higher pitched then a x pipe but you will have better clearance with the y pipe...DONT BUY CHEAP ****!! Because you will just have to redo everthing....for gears, I change the stockers for 410 gears and took them out shortly after ...its was the was worthless mod I did ...wouldn't have 410s unless it was a 700hp track car.

lol getting heated a bit haha. Great info guys. Here was my thought on mods. I already bought an slp lid, and to the person that said I already had an ls6 intake... I dont believe I do because I have a 99 right?? Otherwise I want to get an ls6 intake, borla cat back, pacesetter Lt's/y-pipe. And then tune. Then down the road save up for gears/heads and cam. This sound like a good route? I also bought a mgw short shifter, had one on my mustang and it was awsome hoping to get the same quality with the m6.

LS6 Intake & P/P TB, Pacesetter LTs, TSP ORY, your choice catback, lid, subframe connectors, and tune is the route I'd take. There's little things in there like plugs and wires that add on but that's the main list.
After that start saving for a clutch, as your stocker will be on borrowed time once its modded.
