Question How to change the turn signal housings

How do you change the turn signal housings in a 1998 Z28? Do you need to take off the bumper?

I have two new ones sitting here (the ones stock on the car are cracked and scratched).

If there's a guide or something, let me know.

Thanks!

You do not need to take off the bumper. Here are the steps I use.

1 - Pop the hood
2 - Remove the 5 pushpins on the front top part of the bumper
3 - Pull the bumper cover up and over the foam support
4 - Remove the (1) 10mm bolt on the backside of each headlight
5 - Disconnect the High/Low beams from the head light assembly
6 - Slide the passenger side headlight towards the driver side to remove it
7 - Slide the driver side headlight towards the passenger side to remove it
8 - Remove the running light and turn signal bulbs from the old turn signal housings
9 - Remove the (2) 7mm screws from the backside of the turn signal housings
10 - Put new turn signal housings in place and work backwards through these steps to the beginning

Good luck

I'm assuming you're talking about the front turn signals/DRL housings?

I just did mine at the beginning of the month and the only thing I did was remove the headlights. After the headlights are out you'll have all the room/access you need to get to the bolts.

Make sure you seal your new housings up with some clear silicone so they don't get any moisture in them.

Good luck!

Just thought I'd offer some help in case he didn't start yet. No worries if he's done though. I'm sure this thread will come up in a search for someone else attempting this later on.

No prob I was just messin'.. You did bring up an important point about sealing the lights up though. I had a set fill with water and blow the bulbs because I didn't do that.

I had to give up on mine today, took out after market housings, putting in OEMs, but the new ones just wont quite go in far enough

Feels like its going in right, and the front its lined up, it just wont quite go far enough, the edge of the blinker snags on the joint where the bumper and front fender are bolted together. both are off by about a half inch, and i exhausted myself trying to get them in place..

This is how I'm sliding in the right side

snagged on the left

snagged on the right

I just do it from the little flap underneath, thats why its there. A little feeling around and you get to know where the screws are. A 7mm ratcheting box end wrench goes a long way.
