Default How fast is a 2005 ish 911 Turbo? - Dead even

I just finished putting my car together and went for a test drive. I ended up going head to head from a roll with a 2005 ish 911 Turbo. I was quite surprised to see that I did not pull on him. We were side by side from 30 to about 115. So just how fast are those cars?

He took of from about 1 1/2 cars behind me. When I realized he was going to go for it, I clicked into second and went full throttle. I had to click into 2nd because there is no such thing as traction in 1st gear in my car. So there we were door to door all the way to about 115. Neither of us were gaining any ground. My car is not tuned yet, but I was still very surprised that he could hang with me.

What are your mods? Cam, heads etc? I find it hard to believe a bone stock lq9 auto could hang with a 911 turbo.

Running an 05 911 Turbo would be like running an LS3 C6 from a roll. Bone stock they trap about 112-119 depending on which 911 turbo but from a dig the AWD 911 Turbos are nasty, especially on the street.

That is pretty funny. I thought it was hard to believe that he could hang with me!

My engine is a 2004 LQ9 with TSP CNC ported 243s, Comp Cams XR275H12 camshaft, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, Pro Systems custom carb, 1 3/4 long tubes with custom 3" x-pipe exhaust, 200R4 Trans with a Circle D 3000 converter and 3.90 gears. My car weighs exactly 3500 with a full tank of gas. I have not tuned the jetting with a wideband yet. The jetting seems a bit fat right now and the timing is set at 32 degrees.

With my gearing, I can go to about 125 before I would have to reach for overdrive and call it quits.

Well. That makes me feel much better. I did not know they ran those kind of numbers.

It is the only way I can get traction with these tires. I have my eye on some M/T drag radials.

Watch out though, the newer 911 Turbos trap 125mph and the turbo S traps 130. If you ever manage to meet one of those You'll need a bottle.

Wow! That is out of this cars league. And, I don't have any plans to try to go that fast. The original goal of this car was to just be faster than the new Camaros and Mustangs in stock form. I am comfortable I have accomplished that. Now I will just focus my efforts tightening up all the little things that make for maximum cruising and enjoyment.

You mean what were they new in 1965 or what do I think you could get a clean starter project for now?

No rust means a southwest car and they are out there. Careful shopping will get you one for 6 to 8k.

This is a carbureted car. So, it is in the ballpark, just not dead on. Carb cars are not like a computer controlled fuel injection car that could be way off and dangerous. I set the timing at 32 total which is conservative for a carb car.
