Default hatch lock/motor driving me nuts lol

i finally got the trunk to close, now the motor seems to be in the stuck down position no matter what i do or how many times i push the button to release it... i can shut my hatch(thank god), but it seems that the motor doesnt wanna suck it down or.. is already down and wont come up to begin the pull down, i remember this happened on my 89 one time and i pushed it with a screw driver and it reset itself. however on this 2001 i now own, i cant seem to figure out how to get it back into the raised position so that when i click the latch it will suck it down, once i get this done i dont plan on ever opening that thing again LOL....any help greatly appreciated.

A 2001 what? There is no hatch motor on a 2001 F-body.

That is absolutely, positively, 100% not stock.

Perhaps there is a small animal living in your trunk area that was trained to pull the hatch down? Maybe you forgot to feed it, and now it is dead.

Haha....honestly, I too had a 3rd gen ('89 also) that had the power pull-down motor that you are describing, but these did not come on 4th gens, so if you have one then a previous owner did some sort of custom fabrication to put one in place.

get the part number off the motor and google it, you might need to remove the latch motor to see the part number.

I wonder if that motor you mention on the third gen is interchangable with the 4th gen.... pointless mod, but cool none the less.

You know I tried to reply to this thread when it first came up but I just couldn't understand what the problem was. 'OP unless you're dead set on having a power down feature for your hatch I say take this thing out and put it back to stock. I hate it when previous owners over-complicate things by trying to over-engineer/customize their cars...

are you guys serious that this never came stock on a 2001 ss, cause id like to know how he rigged this up, it looks factory, especially since none of the pannaling looks to ever been removed (and to get at this, you would have to take out half the trunk panaling

heres the exact actuator thats in the car

http://www.drivewire.com/vehicle/200...lock-actuator/

and behind(closer to the key latch), is the actual locking mechanism and latch.

this is weird as hell lol

i sware to god it worked perfect when i bought it and it worked just like the other camaros i had. i dont even know what to think anymore lol
as long as the trunk is closed i should be good right, no leaks etc, but still wtf. .lol

bottom line is yea im rippin this thing out asap

Your link shows a release actuator which looks to be pretty common on 4th gens. The type that draws the hatch down seems to be unique to 3rd gens.

Yep, a release actuator is not the same as a power pull-down motor. 4th gens never came stock with a power pull-down hatch motor, but the 3rd gens did.

If you have something that is literally sucking the hatch closed without you applying any force of your own, then that's a power pull-down motor, which would have been stock on a 3rd gen but not on a 4th gen.
