Educated on cams just curious other memebers input
Ok guys, I know these threads are everywhere and I DO read them.. I have my ideas of what I want but I'm curious to hear your ideas as well.
02 WS6 Auto 3:42 gears. LT's, ORY, Borla, 3800 stall with other misc. odds and in's. It's a weekend car that see's half its life on the track and half its life cruising around and in NO WAY is a daily driver.
What I am looking for in the cam is this.
1. Sound!! I want that nasty rumble of a cam that tells people not to even try to race me.. I know that’s the fast n furious coming out in me but it’s true. I want the car to sound nasty.
2. Performance. Obviously any cam is going to help but I know some are better than others for various setups. My honest goals are to add a 150 shot after the cam but other than that just more supporting mods like suspension and etc. I will probably never spend the money on heads (have 241's now). The car is raced 99% of the time on a 1/8 mile track so that is a variable.
3. Maintenance. I know I can throw in a TREX and get the sound I want but then I change valve springs every year (car gets maybe 8k miles a year and I drive it to the track). It just seems like a lot of maintenance for me (I’m lazy)..
I know it’s hard to get a nice "thumpy" cam without the maintenance but wondering if there is a good compromise out there somewhere. I realize a 224 is too small for what I want judging from sound clips. The TREX produces the sound I want but my setup will never make the best power with that cam nor do I want to replace the top end however often..

You could do something like the tr230. Its on a 111 lsa and doesnt have over .600 lift. Its gotta a nice lopey sound to it, but its probably kinda small for a weekend warrior/strip car. Thats just the only thing i could think of off the top of my head thats in the middle and doesnt require too much spring maintenance.
You could always go custom too. If you are eyeballing a cam right now that you dont think will give you that lope, you could get it done on a lower lsa. Usually that will make them lope a little bit more and also bring in the powerband a little lower. However that not always the case since lope is really dependant on the overlap. I cant remember the formula to figure out the overlap, but its on this website somewhere.

I listened to a few sound clips and it doesnt sound too bad.. Might check around and see what kinda power it makes.. Just out of curiousity, how much maintence would the Polluter cam require?? I know it throws my idea of low maintence out the window but it sounds awesome and loves spray.. Maybe I cant have all 3 things I want....

Im not sure on the polluter cam. I couldnt find any specs on it. I forgot about you wanting to spray. I dont think the reverse cams like the tr230 are very nitrous friendly. You could always go with a Torquer 2. Lift would still be under .600 so with some double springs, maintenance shouldnt be too bad. Could always get it ground on a 111 or 110 lsa. It would definetely "hit a lick" then. Just have to check what the overlap would be on that tight of an lsa.
This website is know for the cam gurus though. Im sure they will chime in for you too.

I'd be happy to spec you a custom cam to achieve all of your goals. Just PM me if you are interested. I have a few specs in mind that would work for you, I just need some details and to know that you are truly interested.
FWIW, there are many customers locally here that run the TR230 and get mid to low 11's N/A.
Thanks,
Shane

Here's a few options if you want to keep the valve lift close to or lower than .600" lift.
CompCams, *****' THUMPR 227/241 .563/.546 109 lsa, overlap of 16*.
TSP, 233/239 111lsa .595"/.603", overlap of 14*.
TSP Custom, 230/236 .592/.602 111lsa (overlap 11*) or 110lsa (overlap 13*)
ASA 226/236 525/525 110lsa, overlap of 11*.
