Default Head Bolt thread Sealant, whats recommended??

I have this stuff:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ARP-100-9909

I know this goes under the washer and bolt heads. Will this also work as a thread sealant?

That is not sealant...that is assembly lube. Seems pretty obvious to me.

You need thread sealant. Like this: http://www.jegs.com/i/ARP/070/100-99...oductId=744898

Yeah I use the arp sealant and it worked well for me. Just apply and spread then let it sit for a few mins and install. I also use GM seal tabs on the first start to help seal any leaks that may occur during initial start up. Again this worked well for me...

I guess there are more people on this site that don't know the difference between thread sealant and thread locker than I thought...

Facepalm.

You do not want any kind of a lubricant in your head bolt thread sealer. BOTH the ARP products shown above as well as their Ultra Torque are lubricants. The Teflon and/or moly that's in them can wash away with heat and coolant.

You want a good sticky gooey gasket sealant without any type of lubricant in it. For decades, Permatex Indian Head was the product of choice and still is for many engine builders. The better modern product to use is Permatex High Tack.

Permatex High Tack is impervious to temperatures, fuels, lubricants and coolants.

ARP 100-9904

ARP 100-9904 is all I ever used without any issues. Use it for head and waterpump bolts as well as temp senders, and rocker studs. It is not the right product for torquing bottomend fasteners.

Far as the above gasket sealant, I have used such a thing to hold the waterpump, or timing gaskets in place, but that is all.

Do some research. They were used by GM from the factory to prevent weeping or leaking of coolant.
