Default Does anyone know how to root HTC phones?

I tried to root my evo 4G today and i followed a youtube video. well i must have missed something because it erased everything and on my bootloader screen it says S-OFF. doesnt that mean is rooted?

The new firmware on the Android 2.3 is harder to root. I'm having the same issue. Now if you go down to 2.2 you can easily do this.

My girl did mine and hers she always does them through her Mac and says the process is alot easier than going through a windows based pc.

OK i figured it out. I cannot get all my lost data back but I do have a rooted phone with less bloatware and wifi tether. I did a supervisor's evo tonight at work with no issues. Its not to bad the second time around
