You're 408 must be an ls2 or a 2005 engine or newer . Starting in 2005 , the cam position sensor was moved from the rear of the block right behind the valley pan cover to the timing cover and the camshaft gear is different . There is a junk yard in Oklahoma called "Ruperts used auto parts" that a few months ago had 7 or 8 of these timing covers for $35 including the cam sensor and was willing to ship (you pay shipping) . They are going for about $75-80 when You can find 1 on LS1 tech classifieds . Just Google Ruperts in Oklahoma and call . Then when You get the cover , You need to switch the 2 outside wires of the three wires in the harness and make sure and at least change the cam gear to the LS2 gear or get a Cloyes LS2 timing set (Rock auto parts) for $28 .

The Gen 4 blocks A. have no provision for a rear mounted cam position sensor and B. have oil towers for the optional DOD (displacement on demand oiling system). That is a Gen 3 block. A cam position sensor needs to go there, unless OP wants to get a front cover and cam sprocket then extend his harness to reach.

01ss is right. The gen 4 blocks wouldnt have the cam provision their. Its a earlier style block for sure. Someone either f@#%+d up or they they just plugged it for shipping purposes? Ive seen blocks shipped with plastic plugs in the holes to minimize dirt and to protect threads but never a freeze plug.. Pull it out and see what you find.

Just look at the front cover and see if the cam sensor and harness are there instead. That is not an uncommon thing to see, even in Gen3 blocked 408's.
