Default Shock nut has some serious rust.

There is some serious rust on the nut at the top of the shock mount. How do I get this nut off?

I have already tried two different penetrating oils. When i try to turn the nut, the whole shock mount turns. I have torn off the dust cover and attempted to stop the shaft from spinning with vice grip pliers placed under the bump stop, but they slip and I don't have any tools small enough to hold the top of the shock piston and be able to turn the nut.

You can try using a wrench so you can hold the top of the shock with vise grips. If that doesn't work you can get a nut buster and break it, or I just took a hacksaw to the shock shaft when I replaced mine

I had to chisel one of mine off. The other one, I used PB blaster, a small pair of vise grips and a box end wrench. Put the assembly in a bench vise before you start. You have to get the vise grips so tight that you think your going to break your hand closing them, lol. Grip the flats of the shock shaft at the top with the vise grips. Turn the nut slowly until the vise grips rest against the stud on the shock mount. Then you can start putting the pressure on it. It will move.

First, get a wire brush and clean the threads as best you can
Then, do the above with vise grips and box-end wrench only just loosen the nut a half turn, retighten, clean with wire brush, loosen full turn, tighten, etc, etc...

If the shaft is spinning you still have hope to get the nut off without having to cut it off. When you think you have the vice grip tight on the shock shaft get it even tighter. This solved my issue. Its hard to get it in between the spring but is doable w/ stock springs. BTW: replace it with a good stainless marine quality nut.
