long time gone, need some welcome home advice
hello everyone,i was born and raise bowtie brigade, had seven different camaros ranging from a 1970 to a2001 z28.in a moment of weakness around 8 years ago i bought a 2000 mustang gt.now 11 mustangs later i'm home.i just bought a 1998 ss bone stock and wanting to do some mods.i'm not trying to build a racecar just add more power to a already fun car.give me some suggestions.i was thinking about an 80 mil throttle body,a 97 mil abaco mass air,air box lid,y-pipe and cat-back.what are you all running?thanks for any help.

First off, Welcome back from the dark side...
Second, whats your budget? $3-$4k will land you a pretty quick car..
Ported/polished STOCK throttle body, Lid, 1-3/4 or 1-7/8 inch headers, custom true duals from your local exhaust shop will support the most horsepower, Underdrive pulley and an ls6 intake. Then of course a tune
Should land you about 350-360 for $2k?
If you wanna put in some nice 243 (ls6) heads, and a baby cam, for another $1000 (if you installed them...) you could land upwards of 420ish
Keep doing research here, browse the classifieds for some ideas on prices of used parts, read the stickies, LOTS of good info here, start here

Keep the questions coming, were all glad to answer.

i've been reading about the ported throttle body but would it not be better to get a bigger 80 mil?i know porting smooths out the air but your still restricted with the factory 75 mil butterfly plus a 80 mil will be smoothed out.have you ever seen a dyno comparison on the two?thanks

well realistically theres going to be minimum dyno gains on any aftermarket throttle body/MAF.
You should probably leave alone little things like that because they wont be much help.
I dont know how much it costs...but its probably better invested somewhere else. A lid, for example.

had a few fast ones, few 4 bangers and still have a v6.if nothing else i loved the amount aftermarket performance companies and all the different magazines dedicated to the cars but the heart wants what the foot needs under it.

i got a lid the other day just waiting to put it on till i get more to go with it.in the old world i lived in before, bigger throttle bodies was a quick dyno proven 5 to 10 in several bolt on articles involving stock 302s
it's auto.price is dependent.not wanting to force feed or bottle it just wanting to do somethings that would give me more power but not kill the gas mileage.

As I stated, because of design of the ls1, they dont respond to throttle bodies as other platforms.
My times are in Sig, stock ported tb.
If you want todo something with the tb, get the stock one worked on.
You are wanting more power or wanting to reduce your et/make the car quicker? There is a difference. With an auto you can drastically reduce your et while adding no power.... Actually drop over .5 off and dyno 10 less rwhp.
The number one mod for an auto is a converter, period.
After that look into exhaust and an intake.
Texas speed 1 7/8s
Ory with a cutout
Your choice of muffler, I like magnaflow personally
Ls6 intake and ported tb
Tune.. dyno or mail order
Those nods with some sticky tires should allow you to run very low 12s@112+ pretty easily. Way your car sits is mid13s@105 or so.

not a drag racer just like to play road i live on.it's 2 miles before you get to a house and not much traffic.i was leaning to magnaflow.how's the interior noise?

Jantzer is my preference... And they have a discount right now.
Magnaflow has virtually no drone and quiet on inside.. Tame when you want it, screams when you let it eat.

Stock mass air, not making anywhere near the power to upgrade.... Yet.
I was running kooks... Good quality, shot design. Texasspeeds ypipe is designed decent, better than most.. mid pack on design.
I got rid of mine in favor for a flowmaster merge, excellent design.. It is highly recommended over the traditions ory pipes... Next best thing is true duals but those options are limited with fbody. Flowmaster merge is the best of both worlds.
