4l60E from 2004 GTO same as 2000 camaro 4l60E????
I have been having some weird transmission shifting issues the past year or so. It seems like every now and then, the trans will shift fine. Nice and smooth. Then most of the other time it will shift kind of clunky, and when you are going slower, you can almost hear a clink when it shifts into 3rd. Sometimes it won't clink, and it will start to shift, and a split second later go into 3rd. Something seems to be off with the way it is shifting, so I'm almost certain it's the trans having some sort of problem.
But, I found a 4l60E out of a 2004 GTO with only 20k miles on it, for 400. Is it the same, and is 400 good for a stock 4l60E, IF it will work in 2000 Camaro. I've seen where some of the 4l60e have different bell housings..
One other thing, he said the torque converter comes with it. Is the 2004 GTO torgue converter have the same stall as a stock 2000 camaro? I have done NOTHING to my engine performance wise, but have thought about putting in a small stall if I swap the trans.

Yes, you can use any 2WD '03 - '08 4L65E or 4L70E as a replacement for the 4L60E in an LS1 engine 2WD vehicle. These will all be 300mm input shaft versions.
The only exception is the C5 Vette which takes the older 298mm input shaft version.
Note that 2WD and 4WD transmissions are not interchangeable as it takes extensive disassembly to swap the output shafts.
While there are different tail housings - with and without torque tube, they are easily swapped.

I don't know anything about stock converters other than they are designed to give good gas mileage while getting groceries.
Even a very modest 2800 stall from one of the sponsors will greatly boost the performance and fun-to-drive ratio.

Manual Shift Shaft & Extension housing are different. Compare the Torque Converter codes, The Valve Body & Plate are different because of the model year difference, Not so much the calibration, Separator Plate orifice sizes & Accumulator Bushing code will be just about identical, Both will have a 093 "Vette" 2nd servo piston.

Oops I missed that. I did close the other thread.
I recall other thread discussing whether the '04 GTO came with a 4L60E or 4L65E, or perhaps it changed mid-year. Since the difference between the two is so small (primarily 6 friction versus 7 friction 3/4 clutch), it is not worth worrying about. Also, IMHO, all 4L60E should be rebuilt with a 7 friction 3/4 clutch. (Yeah, some prefer 8 frictions, but we have other threads about that.)

Second, based on the OP's question, my answer only referred to 4L65E.
Since I have not heard of any 4L65E before 2003, I started my range in 2003 since I wanted to assure members that these later model 4LxxE could be used in their '98-'02 FBody.
I'm still trying to determine exactly when the incompatible valve body, which doesn't have the 3-2 downshift solenoid, was introduced. I currently think it was in 2009. Hence I end my compatibility range at '08. If I get evidence this happened in '08, I will update my posts to end the range in '07.
In short, yes, all 300mm '98 through '08 (or maybe just '07) 4L60E, 4L65E, 4L70E are backwards compatible. And all '98 through '05 fully compatible.
I plan to soon fully document all this in a sticky.
