So I just finished a Moser 9" w/ 4.11 TracLoc build last week and have been breaking it in all week. So I drove to the track last night, expecting to just do a real easy or spinning launch to go easy on the stock driveshaft, I was just kinda aiming to see what my MPH was. Track prep was quite nice, and I just cleaned the tires off, and rolled out of the clutch at 3000 and SNAP.

I planned to buy a PST driveshaft next week, so I was hoping my driveshaft would at least last a freakin week, but it didn't last one single pass down the strip. Most of you might say "DUH dumbass, the stocker is a POS". Yes, I know, but I'd like to further prove, do NOT trust your stock aluminum driveshaft as much as you do not trust your 10 bolt! :punch:

Just went back to the track and threw in an old steel shaft and u-joint and got it back home. This shaft is way thinner than I was expecting

That track must of really been hooking hard! That's a real shame that it was on your first pass. Bob

I'm really happy that I never went to the track when I changed to a 12 bolt with 4.10's and my stock drive shaft lol.

My thought's exactly. For some reason I always thought it was a little more tough? Yikes :eek2:, makes me scared to take my car back to the track. Then again I'm only bolt-ons and can't launch hard anyways since I'm on the 10 Bolt.

same bullshit happened to me on my first pass after I got new NT05R tires on.. still stock 10 bolt 3.42s though.. new 3.5" PST purchased with MWC 9 already tho so I should be good now

That's why I always say don't even try to run a 9" with a stock drive shaft. I broke my stock drive shaft when I still had the stock 10 bolt. I was going about 70mph on a hard pull and BOOM!!! It broke all kinds of shit! It Cracked the tranny tailhousing/bent my adjustable torque arm/destroyed my aftermarket y-pipe/and put some nice holes in my floorboard. Why even risk it????

yeah or not...... i twisted mine in half with a stock 10 bolt, on a hard street pull. They are just extremely weak driveshafts.

looks familiar, also first time out with the 9"

First picture......original 1998 aluminum DS broke while foot was on the brake going 10mph through a parking lot. Just after doing 75mph on the highway to get to that parking lot.

Second and third pictures.......steel shaft that broke while doing a steady 80mph, just cruising.

Weird shit.......you never know when they will let go.

Damn. The steel DS that I threw in it the other day was a rusty old shaft from a freakin 82 camaro, but I swapped in my u-joint and it got me the hell home 2 hours away. I'm buying a PST 3.5" aluminum DS in a week or two. Bob, I'll be giving you a call, because I need a 1330BC joint, the one that is 1.125" cap diameter instead of the standard 1350 u-joint.

The aluminum is so damn thin.. And what the hell is the purpose of the cardboard on the inside!?!?

On a side note, these 4.11s kick ass!

thanx for the heads up. was considering an LS1 driveshaft but I think I'll stick with the stock steel now.

Thins since the factory made power and the 3.42's is all that the car was designed to see. Not meant for racing but for driveability and I am sure gas milage requirments. It has been said that the cardboard was for handling vibrations at freeway speed.

Always got a kick out of seeing that when a stocker busts open.

A bit of vibration dampening and marginal strength improvement. When a tube fails from torsional stress it will pucker like when you squeeze a can. The cardboard is a cheap solution for a bit of extra support to stop the tube from puckering in. Notice how most of the failures are between the weld and beginning of the cardboard. Its not the end all solution as you can see, but it helps

Buddy of mine snapped one at Centerville too. He was even trying to baby it.

Then a couple weeks later he broke the new one...on the street going into 2nd gear.

My stock type chevelle shaft (shortened for swap) let go on the dyno at 6500rpm in 3rd. Wiped out the exhaust, a brand new built 4l60e, put a hole in the floor, and destroyed the pinion yoke.

Stock driveshafts are stupid. I had a chromoly steel with spicer solid u joints built for $230 high speed balanced and shipped. I had paid ~$140 for the shortened stocker.

Probably be a good idea to get a drive shaft safety loop if you're going to be doing any sort of racing from the looks of it.

Centerville, AR. A 1000' strip, and was surprisingly very sticky. I didn't even make a single 60' all night :jest:

Ouch, breaking at the end like that is dangerous. That driveshaft turns into a raging machine breakin shit :jest:... Luckily mine broke at the front and I have no damage under my car, just some dings on the exhaust pipe.

We offer shafts in both 3-1/2 aluminum or 3" chromoly. standard yokes or Billet 4340.

I'm buying a new driveshaft this weekend. I need one for my T56 to 9" with the 9" having a Ford 1330 u-joint (1.125" cap diameter). Preferrebly in a solid u-joint if you can. Can you PM me your best deal on a chromoly and aluminum shafts? Maybe with a military discount by chance? Thanks

Bleumenthal's Manufacturing in OKC. Not sure if that price was normal or not, my dad has ordered from them before for his shop so he had an account on file.

I ordered it and they shipped the next day. I got it the day after that.

Lucky no one in the shop was injured. On the dyno is the worst place to lose one
