When I did a remote start on my Camaro. All I did measured the keys resistance and inserted a resistor with the same value inline with the wire coming from the switch

Pull the two wires out, strip the ends and touch one wire to one side of the spare key and one to the other.

Default bypass chip on the key

go to your chevy dealer find out what number your key is (each key has a different chip, each chip has a different ohm resistance). Once you have that number you should be able to find out what resistance it is. Go to Radioshack buy yourself some resistors that add up to your key's ohm resistance. Sadder them together ( i spent $2). Look under your steering column and there should be two white wires wrapped in a orange cover. Clip them and connect one end of the resistors to one wire the other end to the other wire. (make sure its the wires leaving the steering column.) then it should work. The computer now thinks the key is giving the correct signal. security is out the window though. But as long as you have the alarm you should be fine.

I did the same thing for a different reason The two contacts inside the key cylinder broke and could no longer read the pellet in the key.

Bypassed mine a long time ago as well, make sure you solder them together. I also put heat shrink over the whole setup so that it looks like a clean install.
