Hi
I live in Guadalajara,Mexico the city is at 5200 feet , scanners read 83kpa of pressure on cars. people here says that cams with tight lsa doesnt work around here.
They use 114 lsa cams , and most of them are below 226 degrees at .050. even on big engines like 7.0 Are their setups wrong? or they learned the bad way what works around here?
I plan to do a high static compression 5.3 ( around 11.5)
with a 220 cam
112 LSA
should I go to a smaller cam on a 114 LSA, or something like the TR cheater on 117 LSA?

no. go with a cam that will give you some power and make a cam swap worth while... FYI there are guys in Denver Colorado that run big cams with decent LSA's, laydown the power and put up nice numbers.... go with something like a Texas speed 228R @114 LSA... what intake and heads do you have?

Sorry, my engine is a late model truck 5.3 (the one with 243 heads)
The car is a foxbody with a 5.3, 4L60 swap
intake is the truck one , headers 1 3/4 with 2.5 duals and magnaflows
I dont want to shift past 6700 rpm ( seems like the magic number) since the rod bolts are stock

if your ride is an auto you are going to need a new stall

small duration cams with tight LSA make great pressure (torque).for picking the right cam you need to tell a cam shaft vendor your car weight and gear ratios.look at some thunder racing or EPS cams.

Being that the air is thinner up there you want a cam that has good DCR to keep the bottom end from being soft. It's not so much the LSA, but the IVC that determines that and that is why the guys are talking about running relatively small cams is my guess. You have decent static which is good, but the main concern is the octane of gasoline that is available, as at high altitude the requirements are less and they usually only have low grade.
