I think it's a cool idea, keep us updated if you do this and how you did it.

I bought the 6LE one and used it for a while. It looked alright, I ran the cord from the OBD-II port through the knee bolster area and around the side to the top of the dash, so there were very few exposed wires It was kind of big on the dash though, and was difficult to get it to display onto the windshield properly (bad angle).

Performance was alright. Quite often, it would lag behind what actually happened by a few seconds. Sometimes it was instantaneous, but occasionally I could start off from a light and then pass the next one a half mile down the road without a speed update. For some reason, it came with the speed reading misadjusted by +6% (intentionally from the factory, said so in the manual) which was easily fixed. The adjustable speed limit (changes reading color when passed) was easy to use.

Visibility was actually pretty good. Unless it was ridiculously bright outside, I had little problem reading the display.

The deal breaker for me though was the glitches it caused. A few weeks after installation, it would occasionally cause my tachometer to stop working totally, and turned on a couple of lights on the gauge panel.

I returned the HUD and Mark (6LE owner) backed up his product and gave me a refund (also the option that I could have a replacement piece, but I took the refund), so if you want to try it yourself and it ends up not working for you, you can always return it.

I wondered if these work or how they worked. But hearing that the quality is poor kinda makes me wanna stay away from them.

Just another reason to tell the wife that you need a vette instead.

Cars factory equipped with Huds use a Special glass with a very minor sheen that picks up the projection better.

i wonder how hard it would be to make a hud like what comes in modern airliners. it would be about inbetween vette quality and military quality.

hell, someone really into the whole military plane motif could do a military one. it would definitely look goofy from the outside though i think.
