I have a 98 ta ws6, that pulls real hard back and forth when i get in grooves in the road. Im sure that atleast part of the problem is the wide tires but is there anything that i can change in the suspension that will help stop this from happening?

i should probably add that the rims and tires are stock size and the car only has 55,xxx miles on it.

mine does the same thing. i have 315's on the rear and 275's on the front. last time i had my car in the air I noticed the driver tie rod had a little play in it. I would say start there or just do what i do avoid groves in the road.

also have a GOOD align tech check the alignment
with good parts/align/tires(width should not be a problem)you should be a happy camper

wear on tires has some to do with it too.

if your tires are worn bad....that can affect the way they ride on the road.

i have the same problem at the moment, but mine is due to the tie rods being out of adjustment. it was the only thing i could really check cause the tires are new.

just another weak link in our cars, gm made one hell of a motor b ut master cylinder, clutch,,DS,,rearend, and front suspension design are all a big POS (except coil overs...that was a great idea lol)

I used to be a technician at goodyear for 4 years, check all suspension components for any looseness including balljoints. But to me it sounds like your caster is out of alignment. Caster will cause the car to wander and follow certain grooves in the road. But also like the other guys said uneven tire wear will cause that same problem.

Wide tires + grooves in road = tramlining. My '84 did it with 245s, my 02 SS has done it since day1. Both cars underwent tire/susp upgrades over the years. Tramlining has always been present.

I never had a problem until I changed my wheels/tires .. since the 19`s and 275`s in the back , I have huge tramlining so I just avoid grooves . but since u have stock wheels and tires , tie rods , checking all suspension for looseness and stuff should be your priority ..
otherwise , I believe our cars are known to have this problem ..

The tires are brand new, all the suspension is tight, tie rods are in good shape, and the alignment is perfect. Does anyone know if skinnies in the front will help the problem? Thanks for all the info guys!

Ah yes, the "Railroad Effect". I would start with the tie rod ends, as mentioned above. Jack the front of the car in the air. On each side of the car, grab the wheel at 9 and 3 and try turning the jarring the steering by hand. If there is any play. You have a bad tie rod, replace both either way.

Then try 12 and 6 the same way. If there is movement, you also may have a bad wheel bearing.

Oops, sorry I missed this.

Skinnies up front will CREATE or exacerbate the problem, really. 15-inch wheels and tires on the front of these cars with their weight can lead to a lot of side-to-side movement.

Good to know! Im going to replace the tie rods just because, hopefully it helps. Most of the roads i drive on a regular basis have grooves in them and its getting really annoying lol. Thanks!!

I had the same issue and it was horrible. the fix was NEW TIRES.

I had a set of 275 khumos on the front and the tread was starting to get thin. I slapped a set of Nitto 555s the exact same size on and it cured the problem.

I have no bump steer anymore

mine does this too and i have 2300 miles on my WS6...i have Nitto 275/315 combo. Never noticed it tho with the stock tires and rims. I guess its just normal??

x2 mine did it bad, aligned it MYSELF and never had another problem. made turning when sitting still alot easier too.

Mine does the same thing- i noticed it when i switched to ws6 speedline rimes&tires. It'll catch some grooves and its like ya gotta fight your way out of it. Got used to it now and it doesnt cross my mind- but at first i thought people behind me were gonna think i was drunk lol
