Default "Smoked headlight mod" questions.....

I am thinking of trying this, but have a few questions first? Any problems or tips other than listed in the "How to" thread? I tried to seperate my GMC Z71 headlights to do the clear headlight mod (remove reflector), and totally screwed them up. Good thing U-Haul rents GMC trucks with un-modified, non broken headlights. It seems simple, but so did the GMC thing. I guess what I need is someone to tell me it is easy, and I won't screw it up. :baby: Thanks, and any tips, or any mistakes that you made that I can be warned about?

I just did the mod this weekend and it came out great! It's not that hard, just take your time and don't force it. Heat the light just like other post says and choose one spot on the end of the light and start working it apart with the butter knife. I kept pressure on it and slowy the adhesive started coming apart. If it doesn't after a minute or so, stick it back in the oven for a few more minutes. It took me a few hours start to finish. Good Luck!

Take your time when you do it. Be patient when trying to separate the headlight. Try to use a electric oven and keep an eye on it while baking it.

I took my lenses off the other day and started scrubbing them with the steel wool, but was wondering if you guys took off all chrome in between the lines before painting.

I didn't take all the chrome off but just scuffed it up pretty good. The paint is sticking well and I doubt I'll have problems with it later. My .02

Do a search for the original thread on it, there were a few extra tips in there.

Well, I did it this week, no problems, went smoothly, looks awesome on a silver car, I HIGHLY recommend this mod to anyone. (Actually the fewer people that have it the better ) Thanks Whistler for the info and research. Thanks, Shawn

I think the mod looks killer and I will do it to mine eventually but I was wondering if anyone thinks that it might look better without painting the chrome between the lines and only painting the outer chrome??????

Question for anyone. I had read before that somone painted a transparent black over the chrome for a black chrome look. Does anyone know where to find such a paint. I have found trans blue, red, purple, but no black. Ok I know that spray window tint isnt good for anything but maybe it will work on this. So if no one can find me trans black I am going to try it. Thanks Scott
